Boy, this on-again/off-again stuff is hell when your livelihood is involved. Re: Operating different machines.
Completely agree .. However, I find it hard to separate all the different facets that are involved in this kind of comparison and it just seemed that the ultimate worse outcome of poor operation was a piece of the overall picture. I guess if I was talking basic, day-to-day operations then trucks mig...

Re: Operating different machines.
I realize that difficulty of operation doesn't directly relate to accidents/death as a result but certainly there is a somewhat causational link. Anyway, that's the way my thoughts went as it seems to me that any difficult activity with the risk of injury is that much more so if death is possible. H...

Mooney Kaput?
According to this article from AOPA it seems that Mooney has shut the doors. Can't find much more about it on the web right now and Mooney's website is still up as normal. Would definitely be bad news for any owners if it's true. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2019/november/13/mooney-f...

An Instructor that actively teaches students to say that simply cannot be considered as excellent.Beefitarian wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:38 am Here's one. "Any conflicting traffic please advise." Is being taught as proper radio procedure by real life instructors. I am not joking.
Some of these instructors are excellent in my opinion.

Re: Strong headwinds cause crash?
Have flown "backwards" any number of times in 152/172 during slow flight exercises. Never lost altitude as a result and never stalled unexpectedly. I'd guess perhaps some lack of awareness was at fault - and that's nothing new.

Re: Commercial Solo Time Requirement
I'm confused a bit - the decision posted related to a PPL cross country and wouldn't apply to a CPL. I agree that a PPL should, and I think in almost all cases does, happen in one day and certainly under supervision. A PPL student typically doesn't have the skill or experience to venture very far on...

Re: okotoks flight school
In an ideal world, instructors would only be retired pilots who are highly experienced but that's not the case, I don't agree with this opinion. First of all, teaching abinitio students is a lot of repetitive work that requires significant effort and the commitment to a lot of student's individual ...

Re: Central Alberta airshow accident
It seems that Smith doesn't have an airstrip so the airshow was near the town but not an airport. Exiting the show airspace would require flying back to wherever the aircraft had launched - and therefore an accident on the way would require time to find the aircraft. I, like others, didn't realize t...

Re: Central Alberta airshow accident
I agree that it's very sad that someone died but I don't see this as disrespectful at all and certainly not semantics. There was no impugning the pilot's skill or any other aspect of their flying, merely a comment that it seems strange that it would take an hour to find an aircraft the was performin...

Re: okotoks flight school
Maybe because people start flying before they have a radio license, then they build hours being number 6 for take off, getting used to controllers, flying in traffic etc. Things are a bit different compared to the good old days, learning nordo off a big grass circle. Nope Beef, you've got it all wr...
