Liberal Regulations Hampering Efforts to Fight Alberta Wildfires

Interesting article in the National Post. I've included the link if anyone wants to go to the Post directly but also copied in the text of the article if you want to stay here. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/liberal-regulations-hampering-efforts-to-fight-alberta-wildfires New safety rules for heli...

Re: Easy on the throttle!

Completely agree PilotDAR. Always used the phrase "If you're doing something fast, you're doing something wrong" with students. Nothing in an airplane requires a fast response. Prompt absolutely. Fast implies harsh and immediate with little to no thought, while prompt is quickly but smoothly and gov...

I know I'm an old fart, but when people pay attention to a supposed ranking based on simply a count of tweets with AI selected positive or negative wording I simply shake my head and sigh.

Re: Is it realistic to be a PT flight instructor

One of the big things to look for as a new Class 4 is a CFI who actually supervises your lessons. Obviously the requirements are clear that you need to be supervised prior to each flight but there's a huge variety in what that supervision will entail. I've known of some CFI's who simply keep a recor...

Still "Paranoia"?

Here's some interesting news - and it's not from any fringe source or rabble-rousing site. Florida State Department of Health says: "This analysis found that there is an 84% increase in the relative incidence of cardiac-related death among males 18-39 years old within 28 days following mRNA vaccinat...

Highly recommended UnitedSky Pilot Academy for private & commercial training. Highly professional instructors to help you every step of the way for your training. Great flying school to fly with! I've never heard of that school. Where is it located? It's in Warsaw, Poland. Not sure why the poster f...

Re: The Career of an AME

Your data on what wages are in other trades is definitely not correct. It's not MY data, it's from the companies/sites whose job it is to provide reliably and accurately sourced employment information. If you know for a fact that "heavy duties" make $150-$300k then how about you providing an impart...

Ok, all of you that say the current pay is crap (even though millwrights and bus drivers don't actually make way more), why not enlighten me/us as to what an appropriate annual salary would be?

Re: The Career of an AME

$42/hr is almost 30% higher than the Canadian average hourly rate - Canadian average hourly earnings 2020 $42/hr x 2000 hr/yr is roughly $84K a year. Is everyone supposed to make over $100k a year? Or maybe $150K? And how would Canada/the world work if they did? What's your point? 2 years of colleg...

Interesting concept - any suggestions as how that would be evaluated and quantified? Without some way to measure it, it would be very difficult to decide how much to pay for it.

Re: Flight instructor Class 4 pay. Salary? Hourly? or Both?

You are stuck in a mindset where only a "pilot" (by your definition of a pilot) can teach people to fly. That's wrong. I never made any definition of "pilot" and you absolutely do need to be a pilot to teach people to fly. That's nonsense. And a bit condescending I might add. I know lots of people ...

Re: Flight instructor Class 4 pay. Salary? Hourly? or Both?

IF you think flight schools are impacted by weather, try running a ski resort. Or selling umbrellas. Wow, thanks for the top quality contribution. Of course it exists. A dollar an hour more isn't going to prevent someone from leaving, but paying 100k a year instead of 30k most definitely would. And...

Re: Flight instructor Class 4 pay. Salary? Hourly? or Both?

Two things come to mind. First of all, there's hardly an instructor in Canada who is going to stay instructing when a multi-engine opportunity comes available regardless what the school's paying. So the concept of retaining staff doesn't really exist. Secondly, schools have basically 2 products - in...
