Re: TSB Investigation - Canadian Approach Minimums

Glad to see the TSB focusing on this as a result of this report... I do find it funny though some of the things they mentioned in the report that they didn't put much focus on - especially the lack of de-icing available with 1/4-1sm in snow, calm winds, and temperature of -2... also the fact that th...

I heard they've reverted from their company currency standards to the basic 705 standards for the time being.

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen

The days of being able to be picky about the flying job you take (the last what, 3 or so years?) are now over. All the advice I ever received from before that time was if you're offered a flying job (assuming reasonable pay and conditions), take it. Folks that are on a recall list are the lucky ones...

Re: MFC still flying?

I heard from someone who heard from someone else that they're just flying with their international students who have been in country since before all this started happening. Not sure how they're handling the instructors, but given how well things are going in New Brunswick right now I'd say it doesn...

Who parker pens air time? Jeez, pen whip flight time like a gentleman. Quote of the Day right here  On the topic at hand though: Training costs are part of the cost of operation of an airline. How the company chooses to represent that cost is up to them. Bond, promissory, up front, whatever it...

Re: Community/Residential Air Parks

Like others said I think winter maintenance and probably weather in general make it a more difficult proposition up here. Also a much smaller GA population. Anyone know of any good size fly-in communities in the USA where they get regular snowfall in the winter? All I know of are in nice-weather-yea...

Re: Jazz Dash 8 400 Freighter

Speaking of Dash 8 fire suppression, does anyone know what the regs are on certification when it comes to combis? The Dash 8-100/200 combis have an awful lot of space for freight and bags, no aisle to walk down to extinguish a fire, and no built-in fire extinguishers. Not sure about Air Inuit's 300 ...

Did they have any of these? Standby Attitude Indicator Turn and Bank Indicator Turn Coordinator This is a big question that isn't answered - was the aircraft equipped with a turn coordinator or turn and bank indicator? Anyone at Tindi or have access to someone who is or their KA MEL? I don't think ...

Re: And so it begins...

I would love to know how much income-tax the federal and provincial governments see from all the major airlines' employees. Does anyone really think the Canadian government is going to let a foreign airline operate domestic routes? Say bye-bye to all that revenue. Additionally, while I do believe co...

Re: Owning and Operating a plane

If you don't plan on using the aircraft for any serious travelling, and training is your main goal, definitely get a common type (152, 172, Cherokee). You'll have an easier time finding instructors, and an easier time selling the aircraft afterwards. Remember that just because something isn't due fo...

Re: When do you think flying will be back to february 2020 level

People always forget history and "lessons learned". Eventually it will get back to pre-COVID levels, but who knows when. I believe the full economic fallout of this is yet to be seen and will have a bigger effect than peoples' fear of a new contagion. Businesses that are just scraping by won't be ab...

Imagine if executives' bonuses were based on things like passenger satisfaction, OTP, fleet flexibility, and the flexibility of an airline to adapt to a changing market... instead of just profits. Someone should come up with a scheme where executives are given bonuses based on the company's performa...

But certainly more efficient than having Q400's parked and doing nothing.

CEWS is a good start but for someone making living in a major city center and has been making $100k or more a year and has the expenses to match, dropping down to $44k a year is a huge hit. While I expect most of the older guys to have some cash reserves, I really feel for some junior captains with ...

Re: Manipulating Throttle Regained Power

A throttle sweep, and a mixture sweep, should always be taught as memory items for power loss in a piston. I've had a fuel injected piston lose power during the climb to the point it would not maintain altitude, but closing the throttle to around half brought it back to life. No problem returning to...

How many pilots does Sunwing have?

I only have to think AC/Express will have to closely follow suit.

This is going to be a staggering number of people out of work. :(
