Re: Transwest Air DHC3 Otter crash near Ivanhoe Lk NT 22 8 2
Thanks for the pic, that is quite a large aircraft. Underwater escape from that cockpit likely ain't simple, and looks like your head may be some 20 feet deep, upside down. Water pressure and temperature, combined with darkness and confusion, shock of water impact, assuming the pilot has not been k...

Re: Becoming a career pilot
If I don't want to retire (with no pension) as a turboprop driver, I wouldn't get into this career. Well, that isn't reassuring that I am making the right decision. The reality bites doesn't it? Bede hit the nail on the head. I'm 35, done all the "interesting and adventuress" flying I've wanted to ...

Re: Beaver Crash
I agree on the Life Jacket topic. Wearing one in an seaplane is another recipe for disaster. I have a hard enough time getting a passenger to understand why I remind them to exit the aircraft before inflating the PFD. I can't imagine what would happen when everybody on board is in a panic pulling re...

Re: Becoming a career pilot
My question for you is have you done any flying yet? What has made you sure you want to fly for a living? If you haven't DO NOT quit your current career yet. Actually keep a well paying job all the way through your PPL and your CPL if you can. You wouldn't be the first person to decide you don't act...

Doc, I can't quite tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I hope not, I hate to speculate but before people should start jumping on flying vfr in the mountains let's think for a minute here.

Re: Air Nootka Beaver missing near Tofino BC - Aug 16 2013
How come no one here has questioned where his fuel selector was? Didn't a first report say he went down 3 minutes after departing?

This isn't a thread about what you fly with your PPL. He asked what your first job was flying behind.

Seems my post was deleted. Maybe I was to subtle and light hearted compared to a few other posts on here. SO like Doc has said know where your bloody gear is before you land. It's that simple.

OldnCold the only personal attack I will make on you is your posts are hard to read. Then again as a pilot who cares about grammar or proper sentence structure?

yup Trey you're right. $950-1000/hr is the magic number myself and many other operators have come up with if you're trying to do sightseeing and float/amphib charter.

Re: beaver hourly operating costs?
If it has anything to do with his previous posts about "starting a sightseeing" my advice is to walk away from your idea. But if you're that keen where do you plan to do this work with the beaver? The reality is most major cities someone has tried to do it. Only a very few have lasted more than 1 se...

Were they in control of the jet? Sure...did they hit terrain. Yup. You could call it CFIT. Anyone who doesn't think CFIT isn't caused by pilot error needs to give their head a shake for a loose screw. The airplane doesn't know it's about to fly into the side of something...weather it's in cloud, sno...
