Re: "Commercial pilots need stall recovery experience" artic

In our company, we train initial hires on all allowed stall scenarios, and revisit them on the annual check ride, noting indications, airspeeds, and recovery requirements and variations. On each type to be flown. it's one of the more discussed subjects around the table and appreciated comfort the kn...

As the operator of 4 aerodromes presently listed in the CFS, CWAS, (3 water, 1 land), with the potential of more, we will be contributing with our comments.

Re: 4 Tailwheels...

Absolutely correct. We almost always "wheel" land the Cessnas and DeHavillands. Because of the loaded landing speed (85KT touch down) we 3 point the 802s to enable the use of beta / reverse to shorten the landing roll, empty it's usually a wheel landing again. As spoken in earlier threads, different...

Hmmmm...... let's see..
Stinson 108-3, C-185, DHC-3T, and AT802. So, other than floats, about 90%. 1 worn out tail tire on the 802, 2 on the 185.

Re: ORNGE clips trees on landing, Dec 22nd 2013.

Agreed John, there have been countless injuries reduced and lives saved by the expediency of the air ambulance. Not in question. Any crew members I have met are all top notch. I was only referring to these two incidents, and imagining that the "unsuspecting" public is going to wonder the same thing....

Curious,
with this incident, and the latest with the window loss, on both occasions the patient was subsequently, and successfully transported via land ambulance. So what's with the helicopters?

Saw the movie with about 10,000 others @ Oshkosh this summer. A sequel is coming out where the main character get floats ala FireBoss. Pretty serious folks these cartoon makers, they even asked us questions about operations for authenticity.

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots

Thanks for recommending the course to the beginners guys. I must agree since I've taught it for 20+ years. We try to have a mix of bikes for the novices to try. Cruisers, standards, sport and endure-ish. Inevitably, the majority gravitate to the sport bikes (we use Ninja 250's with the fairings remo...

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots

Did the dirt bike racing thing as a kid. When I graduated to street bikes, got my instructor / examiner rating as a hobby, and have carried on with that, training literally thousands of riders since. Bought the latest bikes from an U.S. Air force buddy who gets H.D.'s @ cost for serving. They're sit...

Re: Thunder Bay - Vancouver Island on floats

Thanks! I was there once a number of years ago but there wasn't a dock I was aware of then to go to. Ended up on a beach @ a friend's friend's place. I'm getting a good route figured out from all the help I've been getting PM'ed to me. Greatly appreciate it all!

Thunder Bay - Vancouver Island on floats

Howdy All,
question for you,
We're planning a trip early Sept. I've got a couple possible routes worked out, just wondering if there's any input on what's better / worse, or good accommodation / food / fuel / yadda yadda stops.
I'll need jet.
Cheers!

Get to know your weather. Official reports can be a little sparse. Often unofficial reports are invaluable. Outfits like sandy lake seaplane in sandy lake, etc., are in the here and now and can give you what nav Canada cannot. G

I recall Leland (God rest him) telling me about having this video made after the loss of another friend. Knowing Wayne and having flown with him in the Raven, I have witnessed his ability and sincerity, and couldn't think of a better spokesman. Good to be reminded of the basics, and when people of t...
