Re: "Uncontrolled" Control Zone? (CYZR)
A geeky, academic question from a pilot perspective I suppose, but if you don’t mind, what determines the clearance you issue to an IFR flight inbound to an airport like we are talking about here? ... ie. an airport in Class “G” airspace which underlies Class “E” airspace. What determines if you is...

Re: "Uncontrolled" Control Zone? (CYZR)
We need to find an IFR controller to ask what needs protecting for an aircraft leaving controlled airspace for an approach. You might be right. Maybe the first (or second) aircraft would be given alternate missed approach instructions. This is similar to CYCH which underlies controlled airspace (22...

I had a manager tell be that NavCan was losing $1500 per MINUTE. Thats about $2.1 million dollars per day. Pretty grim.

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/other/canadian-air-traffic-control-firm-slashing-jobs-as-coronavirus-hammers-aviation-industry/ar-BB19lO51?ocid=msedgdhp A misleading thread title. No licensed controllers were laid off. The 14% is of total workforce across all jobs. From the article - "it (Nav Canad...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
Don’t quote me but I recall they were about the start the last phase and didn’t because enough people took advantage. I was right beside someone who was waiting for that phase to go into action and was willing to take it but never got the offer. They did not offer Phases 4 or 5 to ATC because they ...

200 managers layed off All training has stopped Not quite true. From the CEO's message "200 permanent positions in management and the represented ranks were eliminated across many of our departments" Training was stopped most places. It was done on a specialty basis, tactically as it were. OJT trai...

Hopefully this doesn't have the same kind of long term impact that the hiring freeze by the government in the late 80's had.

Re: IFR flight test tablet requirments?
There’s an established protocol for ATC to dictate enough of the contents of the approach plate over the air to a pilot not familiar with the data. It’s not an emergency scenario. DF7D4575-6349-4554-9FBD-26BADCCBABAD.jpeg I have had to give this info out only once in my career. I believe the aircra...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
That’s ironic. I know a lot of controllers who never made it as pilots. In fact most. Are you saying that most controllers tried to be pilots and failed? I call BS. I actually work with a hand full of people who are commercial pilots, instructors, medevac, jump plane, bird dog, vintage wings, all o...

That's a question only Nav can answer. Why don't you contact them and ask? Then come back here and share the answer.

Timmins was incorrect in their over reach and London FSS agreed and gave me an 800 number and suggested I lodge a formal complaint as this has happened several times, I didn’t and should have as this seems to be the only official Way to make change / educate and may maybe COPA. Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
Personally, I would start with direct and modify if required. If you want to be able to plan ahead of time though, why not use one of the two published VFR Routes to cross the water? For YYJ YKA I think East Point to Cherry Point would be appropriate. Why WC? Im sitting at home and i have a somewha...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
The only people who think being a pilot is a big help in being a controller is of course pilots. Any who are trying to get in and for whatever reason don't make it, complain that the process is ridiculous. Rest assured that if being a pilot was a ticket to success, you would be a shoe in. Whoever in...

Re: 17.5 Million Dollar Man....BBD
To our current government, "small business are nothing more that tax cheats" -- I'm quoting our current finance minister and that has been his position all along. Got a source for that? I too would like to see a source for that. I can't find anywhere in a speech or statement that Morneau said those...

Re: 17.5 Million Dollar Man....BBD
You’re completely out of touch. People WANT to go back to work. There is no work. Sunwing has flown TFW's into NB and NS to fill jobs that companies cannot find locals to do. Fish plants around Moncton had a massive advertising blitz/campaign almost begging for workers, didn't work. Hence foreigner...

Re: CYWG "No Join"
Thanks for the additional information about "no joy" If it means visual contact then why would he say no joy to the transponder when he was looking for the transponder on the radar screen? Because he is looking at the radar screen where he would normally see the transponder return and can't see it,...

Re: CYWG "No Join"
No joy is also the Nato Brevity Codeword for something not working. The controller might be ex military and just reverting back to the term that they were used to. It is a Nato Brevity codeword/phrase but it doesn't mean "not working", rather in the air environment it means "Aircrew does not have v...
