Re: Anybody getting any calls from The North yet?

...so word on the street hasn't changed last year to this, eh. Last year, in February, the story was "call back in March". In March, it was "call back in two weeks". In two weeks it was "Call back in April". In April, I stopped wasting my time making phone calls

Re: Update - Citation was attempting barrel roll / crashed . . .

Sure, but is it any easier to decide to roll a jet than a Citabria? Rhetorical question, sorry... I made mention there of the Citabria in a totally different context than the 'stick and rudder' skills burn this thread seems to have been on. The mechanics of a roll are pretty uniform across types so ...

Re: Update - Citation was attempting barrel roll / crashed . . .

Its always entertaining to hear the commentary from the guy who figures the rest of the world is full of retards just because the rest of the world exists outside his own mind. I'd bet that it seemed like a perfectly good idea at the time and the pilot flying had successfully completed rolls in othe...

Re: Multi/IFR instruction

I was impressed with the ProIFR model. Some instructors there fresh off the block, while others had a couple years in the IFR world under their belt- but in the sim or the cockpit, it was hard to tell backgrounds because all taught to single uniform standard- and that is the important detail. What s...

Re: Standard or fast track program, which is best

I went from ground bound to CPL with Group 1 IFR in ten months, working at my own pace, holding a 9 to 5 during the day and flying a few afternoons a week and on weekends. I must have gotten lucky with the weather or something- persistence probably had little to do with it  . It's not the ...

Re: WHY do pilots land gear up?

IRT the original question posed- For the same reason pilots run out of gas 20 miles short of the destination. At some point before the moment of 'oops' occurred, their head was not in the game and committed. Landing gear legs are very useful structures, even as an ancillary flight control. I wonder ...

Re: Any skydivers on here?

Ok, I'll start. 1) ARE YOU NUTS? Skydivers may seem pretty out there.... until you meet a BASE jumper 2) Why would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane? You haven't seen the airplane 5) Is there something wrong with your head or were you born without any sense? That's a good point, I mean comp...

Re: Turning Radius / Wing Speed / Angle of Attack

While discussing the wild and vertical variations of turns that could be used to get turned around in the mountains asap is entertaining, in all practicality the situation where a quick turnaround becomes necessary will (/should) not be due to running out of altitude below, but rather it will be ins...

Re: Turning Radius / Wing Speed / Angle of Attack

Reality check... You've just realized that yes, indeed the terrain ahead of you is about to outperform your trusty four banging clunker. Figuring a quick reversal is in order to impress the girlfriend in the backseat and save your bacon, your first thought goes to the hammerhead, or a rough attempt ...

Re: Turning Radius / Wing Speed / Angle of Attack

If more pilots had the ability to move the controls so as to get max performance out of the wing without losing control there would be less need to know this stuff. Had to laugh out loud at this one... aren't there like three dozen threads kicking around about the 'dumbing down of aviation' that ev...

Re: Full-Time Pilot Career

Progressing with your license on your own time and dime will be more efficient and cost effective than entering a structured program, every time. It's my opinion that it is a major mistake to enroll in a 'professional program' with the expectation that you will get a better quality learning experien...

Re: PST skyvan driver

The example is irrespective of country- Ecuador just popped to mind in jest. Generally speaking, the rules are such that the country name on the license and registration should usually match up-etc etc. Without going into speculation, there are two obvious points- a. there was a reason why the plane...

Re: PST skyvan driver

So what, when Saunders sends a C registered Caravan to Ecuador for survey work is it now unfair that they send a crew with it and leave two Ecuadorian pilot out in the cold still looking for work?? I can't think of one Canadian firm that owns Caravans and will lease them on a summer contract for jum...

Re: PST skyvan driver

All this compare and contrasting of takeoff distance, cruise speed, taxi speed and buoyancy is great, but in a skydive operation, the only numbers that matter are how many minutes between when the wheels leave and return to the world and how much fuel was turned into noise in the mean time. IIRC, th...
