Re: Flying long distances in T effect ( Ground effect. ).
I've heard that during WWII, fighters low on fuel and trying to get back home would pull props back to coarse as much as they could. Not sure if they did the ground effect thing or not but it would have been nice for them to know exactly what was the best solution for their predicament. Winds would ...

Re: Flying long distances in T effect ( Ground effect. ).
I can say that there is a very strong comfort factor flying at 50 ft. over the water with a float plane if the waves aren't a factor. Endless runway, little traffic, smooth air and the engine just sounds better. Now taking a leak might be tricky and glassy water, fog or haze, hmmmmm. ., well done. I...

Thank you Cleitus. You've been there and done it obviously, and I hope others lay off the ACF-50 and WD-40.

Re: Controlability of aircraft
I remember way back when, before cell phones or even computers and I flew a group of guys to a lake for a day fish. We were really on our own during that era to get (predict) weather. A local call to FSS was great help and we would sketch out the systems arriving/departing but there was nothing tell...

Pipe cleaner - now there's a thought. Spray with DeOxit contact cleaner and work the pipe cleaner, hmmm. Thinking this is hard to improve on.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: DHC-2 Beaver accident Australia
Ragbagflyer you are soooooo correct. I've been there at that weight, absolutely no warning and scared the crap out of me. Don't play with this bird down low. Flap, flaps, flaps, max 45 degree bank, don't pull like a Cessna. Forget what some are saying "there is a stall warning", NOTHING ! !

Re: contact cleaner
Okay, some ideas starting to flow. These plugs to clean are the size of your wrist with more than 30 wires inside. Replacing the plugs is not an option at this time because it's next to impossible to work in the area. Cleaning the mail end is straight forward but the female end is the challenge. Is ...

Re: contact cleaner
Well I was hoping we would get some more details on how to remove corrosion. Those products mentioned only clean dirt, and I am looking for a strong oxide remover then clean area with contact cleaner. Any radio person on line to help with this?

contact cleaner
Looking at huge Amphenol and Cannon plugs that I want to clean the inside contacts. Any ideas on what is the best contact cleaner to use? I'm suspecting some corrosion inside being 40 years old so the WD-40 might be a poor choice.

Re: "career flight instructor"
I remember someone putting 5 gal. can of water in the copilot seat to adjust the c of g.
I'm probably wrong but I think they were 500 lbs over gross but the c of g was right on, lol.
Ahhhh, memories, do as I say not as I do, lol.

Many thousands of hours on the Beaver - listen and obey the above. No room for show offs and complacency. It's a flap aircraft - nuff said.
I'm still here but not from my advanced flying skill.

Crazy - If you say that all A.D.'s should be researched back to day one are you then going to document in the log book that you have researched all the A.D.'s. and non apply? Will you stake your licence on it? It's a next to impossible task IMHO especially on older aircraft because instruments, radi...

Re: to inhibit?
Well my problem is not with my aircraft but others parked out my door. Draining and replenishing is not going to work for these owners.
I'm suggesting adding Camguard to whatever oil they have now because nothing gets easier than that and certainly will not hurt.

Crazy - We have a maintenance facility and several customers fly very little.

to inhibit?
Inhibiting oil is not to be used in flight for more than about 10 hours they say for the life of the engine. So an aircraft that flies very little annually, what do you do? Keep changing the oil back and forth with inhibiting oil? That won't happen. I was thinking, why not put a litre of inhibiting ...

Wonder how much time he had in helicopters? He was hovering and waiting for emergency crew? I don't get it. Hughes 300C is an amazing helicopter. Not sure if his was a 300CB or C? I flew one for a couple of years and worked it hard like in very. Hard to beat and the auto is not as bad as some say. R...

Hey Crazy, I have a friend in Ohio that keeps his boat at a marina there. Shop rate to work on the boat is $125.00 U.S./hour ($150.00. Cdn.) The dock is more costly than my heated hangar. When will we ever get paid what we should? The training, the financial commitment, the experience required to ma...
