Re: IFR renewal
I did mine in Cornwall. It was pretty easy, although the instructor I went up with had just got hired with that school and actually I was his first "student" at that school. He wasent very helpfull just sat there and didn't say anything. So I just did my own thing. The flight test was fine though, G...

Re: Voluntary Safety Shutdown of OP's
I graduated from MFC a couple years ago and if I had to do it all over again I would have just saved 10-15 thousand bucks and gone somewhere else to get my tickets. The community college stuff you go through was a joke. It was just to give you a diploma then actually learn anything usefull or pratic...

Re: Instructing Vs. Northern Time
When I graduated from school I thought about instructing but I just couldn’t dish out the extra $7000 to do it. So I moved to NW Ontario and started working the ramp and finally started flying. That was almost 3 years ago, now I’m still in NW Ontario, on my 3rd airplane and loving it. It's not all V...

Re: Mr. North strikes up a conversation
Although I don’t know what it's like to be an instructor since I never was one, I do firmly believe that instructors should be experienced pilots. It should be one of those jobs you do at the end of your career when you have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to new pilots. When I did my flight traini...

Re: Cleared on course
What I do, may be wrong but I hope not. Filed YQT direct YXL, CX is "YQT 5 Dep blah, blah blah" Take off as per sid, then get "FLTxxx cleared present position direct YXL", I go direct-enter on the GPS. Different situation, same departure and I get "FLTxxx cleared on course", I turn to intercept the ...

Re: Allergies
I got stung by a bee this summer in a PC12 at FL250 and it sucked! First time I have gotten stung since I was about 8 years old. Talk about luck. Come to think about it, the mark is still on my arm. Stupid bee.

Re: King air Sim at Moncton Flight College
Let me just say that I did the diploma program at MFC and went through their 35 hours of KA200 sim training and it was fun, and cool and all that stuff but I can say that it did not help me get the job i'm in now. If you really want to ride in a sim then take about 5000usd and go down to the states ...

Never flown a KA200 except for a FTD but have flown the PC12, and I can say the PC12 is a superb aircraft. It's fast, reliable, has nice avionics, really good autopilot. You can take it up to 30 000ft (if RVSM), it also has 1200shp, can take alot of weight, has a nice cargo door for loading or unloa...

Be sure of where you are going to clear customs. Don't try and do it at a major airport. We've had problems in the past of pilots getting vectored 130 miles out of their way. Try and pick a smaller, less busy airport to clear customs at. Might make the trip that much more easier. Oh and if it's your...

True enough. But if contract requirements are not a factor and you can live with the fact that you only have one engine, I think the PC12 is a great choice. Although I have never flown a Beech (of any kind), I have flown a PC12 and it's a fantastic machine, although it's about a 4 million dollar air...

Here goes. I'm a long time reader of Avcanada although this is my first post. In my experience flying the van I think I have at least a little experience of how it performs in ice. The boots on the van are not totally ineffective. It's kind of an unwritten rule, at least at the company i'm with, to ...
