Re: Flight training and new PGWP rules for international students

Oh well. Foreign students have had it good so far, the gravy train is finally over. Gravy train? According to StatsCan (Link in article https://www.educanada.ca/programs-programmes/education_cost-cout_education.aspx?lang=eng) it costs on average $36,100/year for an international student to study an...

Re: Is the ACPA Motto: "We will get'em next time" gone?

There are a lot of pilots on flat pay. Not hard to make more money than that doing something else (Uber, etc...) during a strike or lockout. It is hard to save enough in preparation for the strike on flat pay though. They'll be fine. Besides, guys on year 1 pay will actually be getting a raise on A...

Just playing devils advocate here, but you've only got interviews at those places. You may only get an offer at one of them, you might have further considerations if that turns out to be the case.

Re: Northern operator as a first job?

Get your instructor rating and go to the airline asap. 1500 hr instructors are getting hired at westjet, transat, flair and other airlines. Airlines are fun, you get paid more, work less, and get travel benefits. You could use those to go explore the north on your many days off. Nope. I have no des...

Lots and lots of guys still on probation too that aren’t wearing the new lanyards. That being said, the title and original post reek of someone trying to troll. Do you really believe AC would fire a new hire for wearing an ALPA lanyard? The red one? Yep. The blue one? No. Don’t underestimate the le...

Atis for runway conditions should be on a seperate local vhf freq. in busy terminal airspace freq. Im sure many would agree. By the time ya all get to the end of an atis message in a busy terminal space . Even if yur 100miles from the approach , the atis with runway conditions is far toooo fkn long...

Re: Employee Travel - STBY with pets

Why not keep it simple? Your friend ships the dog as normal cargo and you collect it on arrival. You're looking at about 1500 CAD for shipping and likely another 700 to 1500 CAD in brokerage fees, depending on if you can pick it up at the port of entry yourself or not. Travelling with your dog in c...

Re: SkyLink pilot union takes pay cut & b scale

Honestly, what type of pilot is taking a job at SkyLink in today's hiring market? I feel the same way about pilots who work at SkyLink as I do about those who stayed on with "Pivot" after Air Georgian closed up shop - that is to say, there has to be something significantly wrong with either your pe...

Re: Air Canada pilots should negotiate at least to match Envoy and Medevac

Do you ever say anything new? It’s getting old. “Hold the Line” “hold my beer” “hold my hand while I’m on the picket line for half of what I say I will hold out for” They also don’t pay for the bmw. It’s advertising. Maybe you should sell space on your pretty lanyards to fund your strike pay? I'm h...

Re: Wear your goddamn lanyard!

100%! Everyone should be wearing them after that email. They’re terrified of the unity. Did you see some of our lanyards/bag tags at WestJet during negots? ‘World Class Contract’ is nothing but respectful. What is the MEC’s response to this? Hopefully they’ve made a rebuttal and told everyone to ke...

The company would love it if pilots settle for year one pay of only $130k… it better be a hell of a lot more than that.

Re: Fastest way to get an ATPL from 0 hours? (Jazz Approach)

The Jazz Approach does not get you an ATPL. Getting to Jazz at 250 definitely does not set you up well to get an ATPL. They can always get all the requirements as a copilot, then take some time off to get the PIC (do instructor rating part time while at Jazz, then take 1-2 months off in the summer ...

Re: YYC Rentals Soar to $1800 on Average

One could live in YQF and drive to YYC or YEG for their assignments. You'd make a 2 hour reserve callout easily. Even easier once you can bid for long call or a block of your choice. Must be fun in the dead is winter during a snow storm. Pretty sure you can't say "sorry can't make it in today, it's...

Re: Commuting at Jazz

Also even when you do hold a block, don’t expect much more than 12-13 days off a month due to the inefficient low credit pairings. It’s gotten really bad lately. Yup. If Jazz had a max 16 work day provision it actually could not be applied with the current HIGH block targets and LOW credit pairings...
