Re: Would you instruct instead ........

Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But it isn't my identity. I have other hobbies and interests. Every day when I'm up in the air I look around and couldn't really see myself doing anything else. That being said, it still is just a job.

When I can I plan to buy my own plane for "fun."

Re: Would you instruct instead ........

I personally got into aviation for the long term financial pay off, lifestyle and benefits. Others were aviation kids growing up and that's cool too, but it' wasn't me. In my late 20's I was bored with what I was doing (paid WAY more than I have made yet flying metal) I looked at career options one ...

Re: Things to Consider if Considering Encore

Know your contract, if you are doing 7 legs and 14 hours, you are exceeding contractual limits! The most you can do in a scheduled 14 hour duty, scheduled being the key word, is 5 landings, 6 if the pilot agrees to it. “The total number of operational landings in a Duty Period plus the total number...

Re: Things to Consider if Considering Encore

Jazz starts at 34,700 per year ( before tax) per diems are around roughly 1100 per month. You can save a bit and attempt to pocket this.. Days worked 16-18 per month averaging around 7 legs per day flown. It’s possble to fly up to 90 hours / month on reserve. This isnt' really all that accurate. Th...

Re: New hire bids

Funny to think anyone with any time or experience in aviation thought they were getting something for free and/or a guarantee. I've been flying for 15 years and not once has anything been "given to me". The con/disappointment each of you are feeling is the fact you "believed" you were for sure gett...

Re: Would you instruct instead ........

It's all about lifestyle and not always necessary about all the money you can make, I've been there and done that. If it's about lifestyle, I'll put it this way. After a year at Jazz I was working about 14 days a month with basically every weekend off (maybe one Sat/Sun every 1.5 months) and and go...

Re: Would you instruct instead ........

Don't chase money, it will come in time. Do I look back fondly on my time flying in northern Ontario? Yes. Would I have passed it up to get in with Jazz out of school? Yes. That is because I started flying in my late 20's and knew what I wanted. I wanted to work at Air Canada and I am on the path th...

77.5

It can be much higher in busy months I've been blocked regularly in the high 80s.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.

Oh the hypocrisy on this site never ends. Everyone gets their panties in a bunch talking about the regional WAWCON decrease in the last few years and slamming people for taking jobs at Jazz (a company that has been around for a damn long time, and treats it's employees with respect) yet we have peop...

Re: Would you instruct instead ........

No. I don't understand what the recent hard on about instructing is all about. Everyone likes to talk shit about Jazz while they think they're superior huffing barrels around up yonder doing "God's work" and building "character." Well tell ya what, some may like that life but it's not for everyone. ...

Re: SW4 Landing distance

Don't forget that a 704 operator must be able to land in 70% of the LDA, which means you need 3929 feet of LDA to be legal. Hmm, now I'm not really familiar with 704 operations but if this is the case then how can companies like Perimeter and Wasaya go in and out of northern Ontario strips? I can't...

Re: New hire bids

YUL is the Jr. base and there are always loads of pilots wanting out. Chances are you'd never even get YYZ as a base as YUL positions go after everything else, so if you pick first... you take the YUL base. If you pick last, chances are it will still be available.

There is no foresight in regional operations. It's all about putting the fire out now, and keeping planes in the air.

Re: Pilot shortage, how long?

All the low time pilots I know hired at Jazz had mostly PIC multi time. And enough to be more than capable in any aircraft Jazz flys.

Re: Bose QC25 ANC headset

I had ordered it a while back but cancelled after waiting 6 months with my delivery date constantly pushed. Once supply issues are dealt with I will likely order again. I would be nice to consolidate into one headset (I carry my QC25 for DH's anyways).

Re: Pilot shortage, how long?

I have 3 friends who have started at Jazz within the last 6 months with hours ranging from 600-1000. Two are aviation college grads, one is not. Not the norm by any means but it's happening.

Re: Commuting/Transfering

As someone who quasi commuted from YVR to YUL while waiting 4 months for a base transfer... just move. Even if it's just temporary you will enjoy yourself much more if you commit to YUL. You can find furnished apartments near transit lines for very reasonable prices. As for the base transfer it shou...
