Re: Soccer Team Charter Down in Columbia on flight from Bolivia to Medellin

Why does he need fuel for an alternate? Every major airline in this country is approved for no alternate IFR and use it on a regular basis. Dispatchers are actually expected to use it and tracked to ensure they do use it to ensure they aren't tankering unnecessary fuel. There are goals set ie 60% of...

Re: Saving fuel any way they can

The single engine TO (or one in fx) in the Twotter has been completed successfully many, many times. They only document the failed attempts. (In YLF CM used too much flap and was airborne before enough rudder control was available.) Getting airborne before VMC has always been the limitation of that ...

Re: Fast Air Medevac Crash Bloodvein last night - 2nd in 2016

Does a 200/B200 even have a V1 or just a Vr (they would be the same or within 1 knot anyway)? I don't think it does. Those numbers were calculated based on paved runways and not using a rolling takeoff ie gravel technique. Bloodvein is "pavement" only went its frozen. Balanced field isn't happening/...

If the OTS are more experienced then you can't complain too much, the company has to find the most qualified people. If you're going to complain, complain to/about the current flight crews who are leaving so quickly that a 250 hrs wonder like yourself can't get on the flight line because you aren't ...

King Air B100 question

Hello I'm doing a little research on the B100. Is there an stc to improve the 9800 lbs ZFW restriction? Any other comments about it or practical operating restrictions. I know why it exists but does anyone have any input relative to the a100/100 with Raisbeck. I know the Garrett vs Pratt argument we...

Re: Embraer Runway Excursion RNY 07 in Ottawa few moments ag

That report sounds almost excatrly what WJ did a few years earlier on 07??. Fast, long landing, tailwind and one reverser MEL'd. BTW if Putin's IL-96 (knock off A340) can get in/out of there what's the problem?? FYI the LC/BC 25 is dead as are all replaced ILS's (new equip doesn't do "the back door"...

How about we join the 21st century and get LNAV, LNAV+VNAV, or LPV approached to BOTH ends of runway and eliminate ALL circling approaches. Then blow up every NDB and stop wasting $$ maintaining them. If you aren't GPS certified in the next 18 months then too f'ing bad. We have LPV equipment but no ...

Re: Is Jazz prohibited from cancelling IFR?

It makes me mad to when people don't cancel their IFR to help others, but if it was clear blue skies then you could have canceled your IFR under 12,500 and kept the alerting services or went company note. Turbo Prop If it is so beautiful out why don't you accept the risk and take the VFR departure?...

What kind of aircraft loses lift that easily?? It's called a super critical wing. The Challenger and subsequently the CRJ were one of the 1st aircraft in their fields (buiness jet and airliner) that used this wing. If you have any doubts ask the NBC exec. who lost his kid in Telluride ,CO in a CL601...

A photo is worth a thousand words and evokes emotion and makes things real!!!! The recent Arctic Sunwest crash and the photos that were lucky enough to exist turned that report from just writing on a page to a real life situation with real people (for those who didn't know the crew). I dispersed thi...

Re: Sky Regional Pilot Contract

I like the seniority based on experience model. That way I can whore my self out for 50K a year , fly +1000 year for 5 years and then parachute into a much better job with better wages and be senior to the guys who started at my new airline the same time I started at "whore air" but flew less and ha...

I hope the public goes to the trouble of searching the net because this article paints WJ with the same, we are the cheapest in Canada brush they always use. Hammer, you saved some money on a relatively short trip with high demand, good for you. If you had to send your employee to Halifax tomorrow,...

Re: Airfares will be slashed in half: WestJet CEO

I went to book a flight from yow-yul 1 day in advance last week for my employee. Lowest fare was $530+tax. Bus is $90. I told our employee, he volunteered to take the bus and we split the difference in savings. +$250 in his pocket and mine. I watched AC and bus. He beat them to YUL because of the ti...

Here you go DH CAR 101.1 "minimum rest period" - means a period during which a flight crew member is free from all duties, is not interrupted by the air operator or private operator, and is provided with an opportunity to obtain not less than eight consecutive hours of sleep in suitable accommodatio...

Re: CAR 720.21 Interpretation.

Do you really want to play that game? How will it benefit you? Increasing costs by paying people to tell you the obvious. I am sure your operator can put that exact statement on the bottom of your schedule if you like but maybe they think that if that is necessary then maybe the guy in the pointy en...

Re: Passengers take Jetstar crew Hostage...

In a country where personal rights aren't valued I am guessing that there is reason for the passengers reactions. Do you think there is a CTA or DOT handing out fines for airlines that strand their pax. JetStar(Qantas) would probably stranded the crew too if it saved them a buck. Where there is smok...

Re: Airports that require Holding Fuel

Would you not require the higher of the 2 options? Suitable aerodrome is vague. Suitable to me means nothing more than someplace the landing #'s work. That is all. I may be screwed trying to depart later but that is not the intent of the regulation. Our operation's scheds and regular charters have a...

People are incredible creatures of habit and brand recognition is very important even in aviation. Look at some of the most successful brands in the world to see that. Nike, Coca cola, Campbell's soup, etc are just a few. Same look for a long time. Same with store layout's. Why does every safeway, w...
