Re: DOH merge.

Some of you guys seems to think that Air Transat is a second teer company with bad conditions that was about to fall apart. I just want to educate you on some of the good things we have going for us that we're afraid to loose. Air Canada pilots salaries top about 20% higher on the 330 than AT but w...

Re: Retirement age.

Well that's exactly it, isn't it? They're blaming everyone and everything else for their perceived lack of success instead of looking in the mirror. That's down the checklist, first ballot, hall of fame entitlement. It's not a 65 year old airline captain's fault that an up and coming FO isn't going...

Re: Retirement age.

Ok so explain how that applies to someone who's at Air Canada and really just sitting pretty waiting for people to retire? In a company where progression is strictly based on seniority?

How can I sacrifice more to get ahead? Please tell me so I can get right on that.

Sounds like you need to find a new school, or give up on flying.

Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

I'm not sure where you are at in terms of career or age, but I'm going to assume early and young. I'll start with Rule Number 1 as everything else follows suit. Rule Number 1: Pay yourself first. Take 10% of every pay cheque and put it towards retirement. All remaining money is fair game. Now to fo...

Re: DOH merge.

I just have a question for AC pilots. Just for fun let’s pretend that twe had a open market with the US like the EU have and American airlines bought AC. They have more than 4 times the amount of pilots that AC have, more planes and better pay. My question is what do you think would be a fair way t...

Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

Curious as to where you live where you can buy something on a mortgage based off even $40,000. That's like 200-250k tops. Where rent is "significantly more"? The only place I can think of is Montreal.

Re: Retirement age.

If you are not satisfied with your life, look at yourself and stop blaming others for holding up your progression. This thread reeks of millennial self entitlement. I don't expect anyone to help me, and where I am in my career is a result of the decisions that I've made. But when Boomers refuse to ...

Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

Yeah that's the problem I'm coming up against. The annoying thing is that I certainly can afford the repayments, I'm paying more now in rent, it's just that to qualify they use a much higher rate than you actually get once you have the mortgage. Thanks for the info though. What happens when interes...

Re: Retirement age.

The generations prior to the Baby Boomers tended to retire (or die) before reaching 65, thereby opening jobs to younger workers. Air Canada used to mandate retirements at 60, thus opening positions for younger pilots. Baby Boomers are clinging to their jobs longer and longer, as demonstrated by the...

Re: Retirement age.

There are many other types of flying besides flying for an airline in fact for some of us these jobs are more desirable. Do you think there should be an age limit for us laserstrike? Re: Retirement age.

Then you old guys better not complain anymore about how young people are lazy and don't want to work. It's a lot harder to work when people keep working into their 70s and occupying jobs that used to open up when employees hit 65. In my experience being retired for some years, I can honestly say I ...
