Re: PAPI and aiming point
Does anyone know what the two light PAPI's in the northern gravel strips are aimed for? I find them sometimes quite inconstant depending on location.

I was flying around in January on the coast and having rudder cables freeze in about 0 to +5* ish.

Re: PAPI and aiming point
So last night I followed the L+VNAV into Nikina and noted the PAPI. According to the approach I was on slope and both PAPI lights were white until about 100' off the ground. Then they went white/red, then quickly all red. I was quite surprised how off they were.

Re: Pathways to an FO job
I agree with most of what you said, but also.. Even though I've never worked a full time ramp job I tow planes daily, huck bags and deal with customers in the front office every day. I got proficient in towing in about two weeks and bags are bags. So to say you won't do these things with an fo job i...

Re: PAPI and aiming point
Something I've noticed is the PAPI tends to bring the plane in pretty low. I like a bit of a steeper approach personally but at night or IMC you can follow it in without any negative effects.

Re: PPL Pilot looking for a "Flying Buddy" to get solo CPL h
(To drift the thread a little) Why am I getting the sense that many nowadays read the 300NM requirement as being 301NM, and that's it, box checked, on to the next thing? This is one of my personal peeves ( and to an extent, regrets.) The 300 NM xc is the only time in your career as a professional p...

Re: ATPL Instrument Time
...However where the PIC vs. SIC vs. Dual comes into play is if you are flying for a job in say a single engine, single pilot aircraft in the right seat. Since it's a single pilot aircraft it would not be logged as SIC, but as Dual and therefore not count towards the ATPL. Can anyone confirm this? ...

Re: Is the PC-12 a burden for our future?
It may not be true but I "heard" about a woman who only had single engine time, and lots on the PC12 and was turned away at Encore until she got some multi time. Could just be rumor though, who knows.

Yes, this I know. What I was saying was originally I wasn't putting them in there but was told to. I know it's wrong now, but at the end of the day I' have the blue book so that's all that matters.

Very true. Takes a bit of practice. Flying with your right hand and power on the left take a bit of time to get used to.

Re: CPL Written Exam
A tip.. if you find a question that you are having trouble answering, or don't understand it, flag it and move to the next one. I found some following questions prompted me to remember how to answer the ones I didn't know. This way you'll get through all the ones you know well, and then use the extr...

Re: CPL Written Exam
Run through the TC ones and if you have it, the Sharper Edge book questions. If you can answer the majority of them correct (like %90+) you'll do great. Personally I didn't have a CX2, only an E6B and didn't find it to be a problem. The questions on the exam are pretty simple from a calculation pers...

Re: PPL Pilot looking for a "Flying Buddy" to get solo CPL h
I'm confused. The CPL requirement is 35 hours dual, 30 hours solo, 100 hours pic (amidst other requirements but not needed for discussions sake). Within the 30 hour solo requirement, there's a need to complete a Commercial Flight Training Cross Country Flight of 300 nm or greater with 3 full stop l...

Same. All my solo hours are logged as PIC.Rookie50 wrote:Didn't know this either. Naively I've always thought after being licenced all hours without an instructor were "PIC". I'm confused. Not that it remotely matters.

Re: Can a Canadian non-instructor fly pic from the right sea
Sometimes I fly from the right seat when I rent Cessnas to switch things up. There is no rule against it and if anything it helps you hone your skills a bit.

Re: ATPL Instrument Time
Ok so I spent probably way too much time researching this. You, I believe are correct. Form what I gather, if the hours are used towards a higher license (such as your IFR and PPL/CPL) they can count towards the totals. However where the PIC vs. SIC vs. Dual comes into play is if you are flying for ...
