Re: So I walked into a flight school and asked how much flight training was these days...
I did some quick math, and a CPL/Multi/IFR with the minimum time is going to run about $50k before taxes. That number goes up if you fly a more expensive airplane (I figured on $150/hr for a single, which is probably a reasonable rate for a C150, but a C172 will likely cost more). I allowed 150 hour...

Re: Piaggio Vs. King Air 350 Pros/Cons
The King Air cabin is longer, but narrower and has less headroom. The Piaggio will cruise about 75 kts faster, which will be noticeable on a 1000+ mile trip. The King Air has a much larger useful load, giving you flexibility if that 4-6 pax suddenly becomes 8. The Piaggio likely can't carry more tha...

Re: Air Canada Pool
My thought is to stay put until after the anticipated AC interview. If you get the job, great, if not, head to an express carrier for another chance to interview at AC via the PML. I'm in the same boat. No! I want as little competition as possible for the OTS positions! On that note, has anyone who...

They are probably talking about Sky Regional, who have recently hired DECs, and who fly ERJs with Air Canada (Express) written on the side.

Re: Georgian pan pan
I'm not familiar with the CRJ - perhaps someone who is can add more details. The Bombardier CRJ100 and CRJ200 are a family of regional airliners manufactured by Bombardier, and based on the Canadair Challenger business jet. The aircraft was based on the Canadair Challenger design, which was purchas...

Re: Contacting an MF/FSS
I've been doing this for a long time. I have NEVER had centre advise me to contact FSS prior to clearing us for an approach. Ever. I will continue to contact them 5 minutes prior VFR and prior to commencing an approach when IFR. Illya I too have never heard Winnipeg Centre advise it, but I have hea...

"...Maintenance personnel determined that the alternator had failed." This is a type of emergency that we discuss in training from time to time, and while I don't know the particulars of the Arrow, one should be able to recognize a lack of charging from the alternator/generator and/or discharge fro...

Re: New Flight Duty Time Regs are going to happen?
I'd just like to see an end to the 8 hours uninterrupted happens in camp or at a hotel, and your official duty is when you are home with your spouse for 7 hours bullshit that rules the 703 world. It should read 8 hours uninterrupted rest at your own home plus time to get there and back. I knew so m...

I can recommend Fort Frances, ON (CYAG). It is 165 NM from YQT, and 167 NM to YWG, for a total only 7 NM more than the direct routing. It is a nice town, with friendly airport staff, and a reasonable GA community.

The poll time divisions don't seem to offer a very good breakdown between the realistic applicants. According to the current numbers, there are 5 applicants with 500 hours of single pilot jet time, and there are no breakdowns for more than 500 PIC, or less than 1000 SIC. The TT breakdowns realistic...

Why do I have to tell a pilot not to put 700 km of personal travel on the company crew car on an overnight? That's nothing... before my time, we had a pilot phone in sick for the day, with no reserve coverage, then proceeded to "borrow" the company crew car to make a 1700 km round trip over the nex...

Wouldn't an expensive plane like this at least have a radar altimeter, synthetic vision or something? This mu2 likely left the factory with one radio altimeter. Whether it was still installed/functional/or properly used is another question. (Arguably not properly used in this case!). This plane was...

Ha, your funny. I guess these guys don't know what they are doing in there sparsely settled areas with there 32 PC12's ? https://www.flyingdoctor.org.au/ Just because they use it in a similar environment does not make it right! Don't they also have a substantial King Air fleet? Other advantages of ...
