Re: Will Westjet survive?

Yes they will, their fleet is largely paid for....... How do you know that? WJ is a private company now. We really have no idea how leveraged WJ might be after the Onex purchase. A company notorious for highly leveraged purchases. For all we know every aircraft was sold and leased back to pay for t...

Re: The Return to Normal?

Sorry to have to break it to y’all, things are not going to be back to normal anytime soon. When it does, all the big boy toys are going to be “flown” by some 40 year old guy/gal using MS Flight Sim in his or her mommy’s basement. (All “contract” workers, no benefits, nada, nimini, nyet,) My bad. I...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Keep an eye on what the Feds do with the quarantine requirements. If the 14 day remain-at-home rule is extended through the summer it will have a significant impact on international travel demand (inbound). It's time to open the country and get everyone back to work. I'm getting tired of watching t...

Re: Quarantine will kill airlines and tourism

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-52774854 People arriving in the UK must self-isolate for 14 days from 8 June to help slow the spread of coronavirus, the government has said. Measures such as these will prevent leisure and business travel. Only people travelling to stay for good are likely to travel und...

He is also talking about aircraft that are pretty easy to acquire. It has been well known for a few ...

Re: The Return to Normal?

Not good, perhaps expected though https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/air-canada-flight-attendants-1.5572596?cmp=rss why would Air Canada opt out of CEWS when it's basically government money? Sounds like some kind of pressure on the feds to bailout... they don't want 20k people on unemployment. Accord...

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

For those in the know - what was the rationale behind eliminating all of the LCC 319 and WB RP positions? Also, why the reductions on the 737? A previous bid had all 61 737’s on it. That number has since been reduced to 50. The L319 rational has a few reasons. Fleet utilization. They can park the E...

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

I realize the Transat merger is the farfrom everyone's mind, but I wonder if swiping away Rouge is setting up for ACA for an acquisition and to keep the Transat brand as the new "rouge". Pure speculation. It might. I think the move allows AC to play this either way without commitment right now. Due...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Just for my friend FL 280 AC reduction bid is out all Rouge position are gone....why you think? lol I think the pandemic has given AC an opportunity to rethink their fleet plans moving forward. They mentioned simplifying the fleet. Many wrenches have been thrown into the mix to have ended up where ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

It seems pretty obvious that AC has gone into a holding pattern on the transaction. They will probably just delay, defer, deflect and wait as long as they can.

There probably won’t be any substantial news for quite a while.

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

I don’t see anything published. Something will be published later today. Those numbers is what I heard as well. Over 600 surplus. Close to 1600 reductions from the last bid After CEWS expires, Skyregional will lay off around 75%. Jazz will lay off 50% (and that may not be the end of layoffs). 600/4...

Lots of reductions to seats but many were unfilled.

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

And now the consensus is that the COVID event will have the most dramatic impact on international/intercontinental passenger travel leaving AC greatly exposed. This was confirmed by yesterday’s announcement in terms of forecast travel recovery pattern and timeline. But the net reduction of airframe...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

One factor that will hamper anything beyond domestic travel is medical insurance that does not exclude Covid. If it remains excluded it will put a real damper into travel except for those who are young or risk takers. If you take the 50 plus out of the travel equation it will hurt. Me personally, I ...

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

On the call today it was stated that AC has access to just over $6 Billion. They gave a few different #s for cash burn but $20 Million was the median. 6 billion/ 20 million per day = 300 days of cash to operate. In the question and answer section Rousseau explained the numbers further. Net of credi...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

NEO’s are a dime a dozen now. Future planning no longer has anything to do with a shortage of aircraft or pilots.

The Transat acquisition will only about brand and market share. Does the price tag make sense based on those two items.

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

Based on this news, how much more downsizing can be expected at AC Express going forward? There was no future fleet plan provided in the Management Discussion and Analysts. Which is unusual. The 79 fins getting parked are just the sum of aircraft that are older. IOW it appears like that is the numb...
