Re: Best Route from Calgary to Vancouver?
Here's the dilemma. I need to fly a Navajo (325cr) from Calgary to Vancouver. I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but as you talk about VFR routes, I assume you accept that you may have to do this VFR. The reason I think I may be missing something is that you seem to be pondering hard over ...

Re: Canso down near Inuvik about 10 years ago
/edit/ I heard that the job got botched when it was raised by lifting it too fast and the weight of water in the wing(s) bent them when it got above the surface. But that's about 9th hand info so whatever.... ef That would be right. I worked for the guy who lifted it who was really just an amateur ...

Lost site of the tail at top of picture on the nose plant, but I didn't see any elevator response at all when the tail started coming up. Not that that would have saved it, but...

Re: Canso down near Inuvik about 10 years ago
There's a Buffalo machine with a busted wing sitting in some industrial yard at the north side of Inuvik. At least it was 2 years ago. Could that be the one?

Re: Air Mikisew shut down?
TC and the CTA are two different animals. There you have it. As far as TC went, it might have been OK. I'd be surprised if TC "gave them permission", but perhaps all TC cared about was that the applicable aircraft were operating under a valid OC Anyway, to operate legally, Air Mikisew needs a minim...

Berzerker: Valid point on the certification. My thinking is that to show competancy, a demonstration of that is required to be done....therefore my "fixation" on a flight test. One point on flunked rides ... the main reason for an applicant to fail is incomplete training. I noticed you're in XY ......

Re: Navajo block time add.....things to think about
I think the guy is selling block time on a Navajo to licensed pilots, which is perfectly legal without any kind of cert or license. I take it you think he is selling it with him flying it? That would be seriously illegal, probably 10 grand a flight illegal. In his add it said you could log dual tim...

Re: Float plane crashes off B.C. with up to four on board
Global news quoted John Baird as saying he's had enough and is promising to make the float industry safer. I'm crossing my fingers, but he is after all a politician so we'll see what happens when the media moves on. I'm all for making the float industry safer, but the truth is this accident has not...

Re: Searching for Labrador Plane
Saw the SAR Herc take-off at 5am today... not sure that they'll be able to see much as the weather is ugly here again today. Got the Missing Aircraft Notice from YHZ on the Fax. Apparently YYB had a target 60nm west of Cartwright at 0904 local. Also they confirmed that there was no ELT onboard. The...

Re: V Tail Bonanza Ditches into Kootenay Lake
Plane was imported from the US. Weren't they all? Glad it turned out well. Just an unplanned swim. Word out is that the pilot is an avid AvCanada reader and had just read all the controversy over trees/water on a forced. He was desperate to run into a mountainside at 60 mph with a bunch of trees an...

Question to those who have the answer...
In that situation, could anything have been done to get everybody out, close the doors, and try and right that thing?

Re: Amphib Otter crash-France
An interesting vid to watch in the context of that raging discussion a couple of weeks back about whether to force into trees or water. Water ain't pretty, but you're never going to be impaled, subjected to blunt force trauma, or burned going into water. Except in the mythical version of what it wou...

Re: Do We Need a change in Licensing?
There's this thing called ICAO .... Let's say I agree with your requirements, for operating aircraft in Canada - this is a matter of safety. Naturally, this requirement should apply to foreign crews operating foreign aircraft in Canada, too, right? How are you going to enforce this? Is Canada going...

Re: Do We Need a change in Licensing?
With all the talk going on about the ATPL requirements, and how low most of us seem to think they are. I've been thinking that we don't necessarily need to raise the requirements but add another license to the mix. What we need is to bring back a Senior CPL to replace the current ATPL and increase ...
