Re: Should Canadian airlines stop flights to UK, New covid strain.
This pandemic shitshow isn't fun for any of us by any means. I'm no more interested in seeing people lose their livelihoods, their homes, their savings, their futures, their families, than I am my own. If people would just do what needs to be done for the briefest period of time we might just get ba...

Re: Should Canadian airlines stop flights to UK, New covid strain.
Our friend montado clearly isn’t respectful of bylaws or laws. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the virus or pandemic. So he posts a video he doesn’t like because his opinion isn’t unanimous. What someone does in the privacy of their home is none of my business but what they do in public is everyon...

Kejidog Trump's a f**kin idiot on anyone's scale, by any measure, who's nothing more than an incompetent, narcissistic, dysfunctional grifter. I don't need the press or anyone else to tell me what I hear and see for myself. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence and the ability to screen out his fant...

Re: V1 in small twins
pelmet It doesn’t say that anywhere. Thanks for catching that. My focus was on min control speeds relative to V2. I’ve edited my previous post accordingly. Thanks. I’d say your interview DH8 could have used some control tuning. We seem to agree for the most part, there are some sloppy sims out ther...

Re: V1 in small twins
Since Vmcg and Vmca occur before V2, going airborne beyond V1 is rarely a control issue. I certainly don’t advocate going airborne then trying to land straight ahead unless “in the heat of battle” it’s your best option. When simulation accurately replicates the actual flight characteristics of an ae...

Re: V1 in small twins
FWIW Is it fair to say? 1) V1 is defined as the engine failure RECOGNITION speed. 2) V2 is defined as the MINIMUM SE flying speed. If so, then... The split can be significant between the two speeds. It's always nice to know what those two speeds are BEFORE you depart no matter what ME(L) aircraft y...

Re: 220 Pilots, what are you thoughts so far??
BMLtech Nice try. The current PW1524G issue isn't the same issue that caused the on-ground engine fire and shutdown during initial certification as you've stated without evidence. In fact, the certification flight tests were suspended during the investigation and a remedy found before it was releas...

Re: The Perils of pursuing an airline pilot career
I totally agree telex. But at the same time I'd encourage those in pursuit of an airline pilot career to really take a hard look at that career choice. Especially now that this pandemic has drastically changed the air transportation industry world wide. While the numbers forecast may seem ominous, t...

Re: The Perils of pursuing an airline pilot career
CAE’s forecast is probably accurate if things in the airline industry, particularly here in Canada, get back to where they were before this pandemic. I am rather suspicious of organizations whose life blood is pilot training. You’d expect them to market their pilot training aggressively and especial...

The Perils of pursuing an airline pilot career

Re: 220 Pilots, what are you thoughts so far??
Tolerances are tight, but at an identified altitude range and timed power setting. Climb Thrust limit reduces as you near optimum and fuel efficiency improves dramatically at the higher altitudes. AC maintenance obviously feel the risk/reward benefits to climb for efficiency of operation isn’t worth...

Re: 220 Pilots, what are you thoughts so far??
So, would the use of manual thrust be allowed below FL290, especially for those new on type? You’d think AC would be all over and very much in favour of improving pilot manual flying skills. I can’t imagine a type rated airline pilot would have any concern or problem with setting an N1 value manuall...

Re: RIP Max Ward
Very saddened with the news of Max Ward’s passing. He was a true gentleman who was always hands on at Wardair. It was quite common to see him greet passengers as they deplaned. Even at one in the morning. I passed him and George Curly in our hangar on Convair Drive one afternoon. They were looking a...

I believe your FL290 restriction is self-imposed. As I recall, there’s a procedure involving AT Disconnect and CLB settings. Is there not?
Surely, that can’t be much of a challenge to achieve better fuel economy?

Re: 220 Pilots, what are you thoughts so far??
Of course, this would NEVER happen on a “real” Airbus while taxiing or flying. Naw! Never. Not on an Airbus. Especially the newest Airbus model, the A350!

Re: Air Canada is in bad shape
Parking lots??? Put an average 10 nonrevs on any flight. That’s weight. Therefore a sip more of fuel over the limited number of flights currently operating while losing $2 billion per quarter is still an expense. Dealing with your booking is an expense. Checking through security, an expense, dealing...

Re: Air Canada is in bad shape
Does anyone pay tax on their ‘passes’ these days? I’ve had that “what’s an empty seat worth once the main entry door is closed” discussion lots over the years. If it’s taxed it’s worth something of value. No staff or interline traveller “needs” to travel. If there is, (like bereavement) there’s a re...
