Barrick Gold G550
Hey guys,
I have made it my dream to fly a G550 when I'm a pilot (I'm only 16 years old). I realize there's only 2 in Canada, one with SkyService and one for Barrick gold. Barrick gold seems to be the better choice to me. Now I know this dream seems impossible but if we're to achieve it, how would I go about it? What is the best way to get that job with Barrick if they are ever hiring? Does somebody know one of the pilots of that plane? And if so would it be possible if I could contact him/her for some guidance? Thanks for any replies that I get!
Cheers,
Martin

Re: Barrick Gold G550
Get your CPL and then some experience, say 6 to 10,000 hrs, lots of PIC in the machines that corporations fly, get in on the corporate scene in Canada as most hiring is who you know. By then the current pilot will be retired and you may know the new guys from your time in the biz.
Just so you know there are probably several thousand guys who would sell their Mother into slavery to get such a position.

Like myself, the Captain started out working for Irv on the ramp at Skycharter in the 70's!!!
As your only 16, Skycharter has a rich history in which many of the Canadians past and present flying for airlines and corporate got their start, working for a very interesting guy who founded Skycharter in 1968!!

Thanks guys! I would sell my whole family into slavery just saying
I'll look into skycharter when I'm qualified to get a job there. I'll most likely end up at AC. But I made it my goal. And nothing's impossible! I wish I knew one of the pilots. It would be an honour. Would the SkyService G550 be a good job too or no?

I like your Enthusiasm buddy. Reading your posts it almost seems to me that a career in aviation is a walk in the park!
Only it's not.
That being said, your vision and a lot of determination are the things that will get you to your dream.
Good luck in your endeavors!

Thanks Alex! I know it's going to be VERY tough. I'm just trying to stay as enthusiastic about it as I can. I just want to fly. I will do anything.
Re: Barrick Gold G550
I like your attitude also, a lot of people in this industry tend to get bitter and twisted, its nice to hear the enthusiasm for flying we all shared at one time.
If you put the effort in to learning everything you can about flying and the plane you are in and work hard you will make your dream come true. I was just like you at one point, private license at 16 with dreams of flying now I'm 35 and a captain on a Falcon 900EX. So don't let anyone tell you, you can't do it.
A good attitude and hard work will get you a long way, good luck in your career!!

Re: Barrick Gold G550
Probably the number one reason for not hiring a young person to a corporate flight department, is they don't want to be a training ground for the airlines.I'll most likely end up at AC
As for working on a biz ramp - Skyservice might be a good start these days - you get to meet tons of flight crews, owners, operators - many of the people you meet, years down the road will be in senior positions.
Or you could choose an office/dispatch type job with a biz operator like Image Air/Chartright/Skyservice all operate lots of bizjets.
If your interest lies in bizjets - add to your knowledge about today's bizjets and you'll be an asset to anyone looking for employees.
As for Barrick, drop into their flight dept office, it's in the Skyservice facility at 6120 Midfield Road, Mississauga (by the control tower) - ask for Mr. Alex Gunn, Director of Flight Operations - say hello!!
and Skyservice is hiring; http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopi ... =7&t=87034
Re: Barrick Gold G550
Thanks for the reply Bizjets101. What I meant by I'll most likely end up at AC is that Barrick gold is my ultimate goal but AC/Westjet is my fallback if I don't make it (Which I will
). I'll look into working on the ramp at SkyService. That would be awesome! I live in YYC which is a hub for them if IIRC. And next time I'm in Toronto I'll say hello to Alex Gunn! Thanks!

Dear Martin
There are so many amazing airplanes to fly out there. I sure had my favorites as a young dreamer looking skyward. There is a lot more than the g550!
Here are are few I've been lucky enough to fly.........best of luck!

DHC-5D Southern Sudan the Buf oozes cool engine cowl as big a VW Beetle and 3100 SHP A SIDE

F-28 awesome machine easy to fly loved it!

Amazing machine if you ever get the chance to fly a 3 crew airplane you'll love it!

CRJ 1000 lovely to hand fly really great airplane!
The Air Force got it right with their moto (Per ardua ad astra!) again good luck!
