Is the pilot shortage affecting you?

Post by JohnnyHotRocks »

Not many topics ever get posted here, and I am sick of arguing about Swoop so I thought I would post a new topic.
Is this pilot shortage affecting your operation?
Anyone seeing pay raises? Revolving doors of pilots? Short staffed?

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I am a little short-staffed. But that is not new; it has always been that way! My wife seems to be ok with it, but it would always be nice to have a little more.

The Alberta based management companies all seem to be feeling it to various degrees. Everyone has seen pilots leaving for better pay elsewhere or more likely taking their chance at the airlines.

I'm working in the US right now, so there really isn't any shortage of qualified pilots down here, just a lack interest to work for crap pay, I've seen more than a few companies raise their pay closer to an approaote level based on the job/responsibility of a working pilot, but they still have a good ways to go.

I'd say until a first year pilot (FO or Capt single pilot) in a type rating level aircraft is making 100k USD BASELINE pay, as in per their CBA and without counting bonuses or over time and whatnot, you'll see companies will remain unable to fill all their target hire numbers.

Pay up or shut it down.

Being Capt obvious here, but vastly depends on the corp.

Some make crap, some make VERY good money.

I think that you might well be correct...it's been almost 20 years...

Was that the clip about the two Maritimers living together - where one is 'entertaining' his girlfriend in the other room, and she's rhythmically yelling; "no, no, yes, no?"

[sorry, I'm in a country that won't let me watch that clip right now..]

Apart from leaving my skis behind on a ski trip,(FFS! on a 75% full plane, too. Jesus Christ on a bicycle!) so is Air Canada. I'll be home in a few days, and watch it then!
