What ever happened to C-GRIS

Hi there...

I was just wondering if anyone knows what happened to the Falcon 10
C-GRIS that went off the runway at CYKZ last summer? I was at Buttonville
the day it happened and know that it was over by FlightExec hanger for a while.

I haven't seen it around and was just curious. It's been removed off the aircraft
registry...

Bernard at the flight line (TAL-Million) mentioned that he thought that a/c was damaged beyond repair and that most likely it is going to be parted out.

The Skycharter Limited Dassault Falcon 10 aircraft (C-GRIS, operating as flight SKL101) was concluding an IFR positioning flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Toronto (Buttonville) Municipal Airport (CYKZ). NAV CANADA staff at Buttonville Tower reported that the aircraft touched down hard and bounced into the grass east of the runway. Runway 33 was closed for 15 minutes. Ops. impact -- unknown.

UPDATE Supplemental information received from T.S.B. Daily Notification [#A11O0098]: The Skycharter Ltd. Dassault Falcon 10 (C-GRIS) was landing on runway 33 at Buttonville. The aircraft touched down to the right of the runway centerline and exited the runway on to the grass infield. The aircraft entered the adjacent taxiway before again exiting on to the grass where it struck a runway sign before coming to a stop. The aircraft was substantially damaged but no injuries were sustained by the two crew members. There was no fire and no evidence that the integrity of the wing fuel tanks was compromised.

I had heard the same thing about it being beyond repair.
It was in the FlightExec hanger for a while or on the ramp along with being outside Hanger 17 for a short time too.

I was looking to find out if it was still hanging around YKZ or had it been parted out already.
I haven't seen it for a while and was curious...

Back in oct or nov the wings were taken off and it was put on a flat bed. Haven't seen it since. What were the results of the investigation?

Sad to hear my favourite bizjet of all time is no longer . . . the registration C-GRIS was derived from the aircraft's original Canadian owners - Mel Rubinoff and Irv Schoichet. (Skycharter)

Reason for edit; Mel Rubinoff (had him as Gary??) he was a partner $$$ in Skycharter. He was a Toronto lawyer with Rubinoff and Rubinoff.

Falcon 10 prices have tanked so it would not take much damage to render it beyond economical repair.

Agreed, however the same can be said for all aging bizjets - Falcon 10's have fared better than all other bizjets of it's day. With 165 Falcon 10/100's still active out of 228 aircraft - that first flew over 40 years ago with turbo-jet engines - and the first bizjet with the Garrett TFE731's.

Currently there is a 1981 Falcon 10 on the market with 3500 hours for 675K and hightime Falcon's for around 500K (asking).

Aircraft damage

The slats were extended for the landing and were substantially damaged by the impact with the sign. The right wing tip was also damaged from ground contact as the aircraft travelled through the infield.

Although the damage appeared to be limited to the nose section, right wing and slats, subsequent inspections carried out after the aircraft was removed from the infield revealed substantial damage to the nose landing gear strut and support frame.

In addition, after internal inspections on both the engines, it was found that they had ingested dirt and grass, rendering them unserviceable.

Runway excursion

The main landing gear tire marks indicated the aircraft touched down on the left main landing gear first, followed by the right main landing gear 24 feet further. It was calculated that the aircraft exited the runway at an angle of 37° to the right of the runway centreline, or on a magnetic heading of 007°. Tire marks also indicated that the aircraft was already positioned at this angle when it touched down, and that, shortly after touchdown, brakes were applied with sufficient force to activate the anti-skid system

Never heard of someone touching down at a near 40 degree angle to a runway before in normal aircraft.
