Pilatus PC-24

Post by Kokanee » Fri Aug 01, 2014 3:45 pm

So, Happy Switzerland day!

Pilatus rolled out the first PC-24 today. Saw one of the youtube videos, yep it looks like a corporate jet.

Now to see if it can do what Pilatus is wishing it can do. Short unpaved runways. I am also curious about the PC-12 size cargo door in front of the left engine.

Hi Kokanee,

Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the PC-24, and we will do our best to answer them for you.

Haven't seen any real photo's of the cargo door. It was my understanding there would be an attempt to keep the same size from the PC12, as a sale's point on the 24. Were they able to make this happen?

Yes. I don't have the exact dimensions with me right now, but it is similar to the PC-12 door. It will take a 48" pallet. Although you likely won't find pictures of P01 on the web with the door open, you will find pictures of the mock-up with the door open. It is also flat-floor loading with no raised sill at the door.

SD

Has anyone ordered this plane in canada yet? I can see it quickly taking over as a medevac plane, especially for the more unstable patients on reserves.

Signature huge pilatus flaps

Frankly I've been impressed with all the Pilatus aircraft I've seen and flown, 'd imagine the 24 will be a great plane, of course time will tell.

Balanced field length (MTOW, ISA, sea level, dry paved runway): 2690'

Most of the northern strips are 3500'; I doubt it will meet the balanced field for compact snow in the winter and it would be interesting to see the balanced field number for gravel on a hot summer day.

Those numbers are at MTOW. Most flights out of the reserves would only be an hour at most allowing for less fuel and a significantly lower TOW. It will be interesting to see what they can come up with.

Here's the link to the specs on the Pilatus web site.

http://www.pilatus-aircraft.com/#278

There is a range tool at the bottom of the page.

Same can said for everything in that neck of the woods.... Cat Lake, Sandy, North spirit, Keewaywin... A southern 5 starts to look like an 11 after a few months.
