Duathlon

Post by Apache64_ »

To keep it short, I have never participated in any athon at all. Did some training for a half marathon but haven't actually participated in one. Then I started thinking and thought it would be interested in trying a duathlon. Any tips on training for one?

Cheers

FWIW, my experience with a Tri was that the bike/run transition was really hard. You go from a 'Stride' length of ~34cm (two times your crank length) to >1M. I had no end of troubles with my hips in the beginning of the run. Make sure you do some work on that.

Running off the bike is not easy. Make sure you do a few brick (bike then run) workouts leading up to the race. The best way to start is to simply jog off the bike for 15 minutes a few sessions a month and eventually build up to running 30 minutes off the bike once per week.

I think that would be a BIathlon, wouldn't it?? Or does that reer to a specific combination of events?

Regardless, good for you for expanding your horizons!!

FB, DUathlon refers to a running and cycling event, while BIathlon is the really cool shooting and cross-country skiing event generally seen at the Olympic Games..
