CYTL Bearskin Navajo wreckage?
I flew over this the other day by chance and had no idea it was there. Anyone have a link to any info from that crash? I'm curious, looks like it was moved off the ice perhaps as it was sitting on the beach.

I think that's actually a T-1040. I used to know why it was there, but I forget. I seem to remember it was kind of a juicy story but I can't remember anything about it now. It was a long time ago.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

T-1040 was a gear up in the early 90's.
Navajo was a fatal CFIT in the mid 80's.

It was definitely a Navajo. Looked like it's been sitting there for a long time.

T-1040 is really a Navajo with P & W turbines........

I'm not sure a Navajo involved in a fatal CFIT would still look enough like a Navajo that you could tell the difference between it and a T-1040 from the air.

Well I didn't know what a T-1040 was... guess I should have googled it. Then yeah you're right... only the main fuselage was left.
Re: CYTL Bearskin Navajo wreckage?
It is a Navajo Chieftain C-GBEX that was piloted by Gib Coutts. Accident happened Aug 6 1985. I can find no accident report.......strange? He was descending through fog onto glassy water, trying to get visual I'm sure. Aircraft sank into about 180 ft depth. Wreck was found with a fish finder as bottom is very flat so outline of tail and engines could be seen. RIP

Jeez... I was sure it was the T-1040. I am always spooked when they leave wrecks lying around that people died in. Seems like a sacrilege somehow. RIP.
