B17 - 0 Sea Container - 1 at CYXU
Flew into CYXU for lunch with my grandfather yesterday, and ended up in the circuit with a B-17. Awesome, obviously! Right up until they taxied it into a sea container.
D'OH!

What was it with WWII bombers today?
I was driving east bound on the 407 just north of Pearson on my way home from the Hammer today when the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lanc VRA made a fly by. Almost pulled over just to hear the sound of those 4 Merlins.

Did they really smack into that sea container? Hard to tell in photo if they did or if there's damage

Yeah the photo's crappy, but the crew was standing around with long faces, didn't really want to linger. But yes, the wing is wedged on top of the container. I know there was at least one tear along where the edge of the container met the wing skin. Nothing structural though I hope :s

I'm willing to bet that it's still flyable.

I'll bet that was one tense ride home, followed by some serious pint raising shortly after landing!

Hell, that is nothing in comparison to the damage that the birds received during the war and came home with. How about the -17 that nearly lost her tail over Africa and still made it back to England?
