Crash at Iles-de-la-Madeleine

Post by timel »

Picture from twitter, news are saying there was 3 ambulances at the crash site. Looks like there is a lot of fog down there.

OMG that poor mother! The LaPierre family were flying home for their father's funeral and their mother was awaiting their arrival. Two of her sons on board and Jean's wife plus crew & I'm guessing other family members. That poor mother!

Does anyone know the carrier?

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry ... ertxt=246W

It seems that it was a US registered private aircraft, registered to a Delaware corporation.

Were the pilots Americans ?

Edit: I just searched the FAA database. It seems that this was the only aircraft registered to that particular corporation

Airport served only by NPA which according to the winds would have been RWY 07 with a MDA of 480 (458). Why even bother attempting the approach when the reported ceiling is 200' ?...

In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"

Maggies can be a rough spot when WX is down and winds howling. Not sure, but don't think there is a precision approach jus loc/dme, VOR and GPS. Been quite a while since I have been in there. Very sad to hear, heartbreaking news.

One pilot was from yhu, I think he is a business owner at the airport.

No harm in trying any approach, the ceiling could be higher than reported. Fly the approach, see nothing at minimums, do the missed and go to alternate. Try again another day.

I know the pilot, he lives in Montreal but wasn't able to insure the a/c in Canada so kept it registrated in the US. I flew with him two times.

When flown by properly trained pilots, the MU-2 is probably the best performing plane out there...however, just jumping in from a King Air or Twotter could get you in serious trouble if you get an engine loss on go around...There's no ailerons but spoilers...so unless you really, but really step in, the spoilers use just rob you of all lift on the critical wing and you crash the sim every time you practice the bad technique...Do it properly and the plane is perfectly safe.

If such is the case that would suggest an unacceptable level of risk by the underwriters, yes- no!!!
