The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a wheel of a plane went off a runway at Toronto's Pearson
International Airport on Sunday evening.
A spokeswoman for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority says the Air Georgian flight became temporarily disabled on the taxiway after an aborted takeoff.
Natalie Moncur says a runway edge light was damaged. Georgian Air says the fight—operating as an Air Canada Express flight from Toronto to Hartford, Conn. — was carrying 13 passengers and two crew.
Georgian Air CEO Julie Mailhot says one of the Beech 1900's tires crossed off the main runway onto the adjoining taxiway and the aircraft was returned to the terminal following a safety inspection.
Mailhot says there were no injuries and passengers were rebooked on a flight Monday morning.
I don't. With the regionals grabbing up everyone they can, all of Georgian's pilots today have the choice to not fly there.
Dammed if I can figure it out from that description.wheel of a plane went off a runway ... temporarily disabled on the taxiway after an aborted takeoff ... runway edge light was damaged ... one of the Beech 1900's tires crossed off the main runway onto the adjoining taxiway and the aircraft was returned to the terminal
Disabled on a taxiway after aborting a take-off? And something that sounds like the wheel shot off the plane, hit a runway light on its way off the runway and then across the parallel taxiway. So they're trying to say that they aborted the take-off, lost a wheel, slid off the runway directly onto a taxiway, while the wheel kept going off in another direction, but then they went back to the terminal? Hmmmm... or maybe Professor Plum did it in the kitchen with the wrench....
Classic Air Canada? Abysmal shape those 330s are?
Impact on operations: Moderate
Was he alone and had left the training pilot in the terminal?Word on the street is that it was one of the cadets doing upgrade indoc who lined up with the runway edge lights and took off, hitting the lights.
Oh come on. These are guys and girls that want a job, just like the rest of us. I feel for them and I hope they get a better deal one day.
Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder?
xlwing totally wrong! The person going left seat totally had no place in there! He failed multiple times during his FO training. I spoke to an ex training captain who was there. Said he refused to sign the candidate off. And he wasn't the only one who spoke up about that candidate.
So this was NOT one of those cadets you guys like to pick on! They are far better than the guys coming off the street!
This is an issue deep rooted within the company. Not having any one walking in the door and upgrades who shouldn't even been there!! The training standards! Crew schedulers pushing line indoc captains to sign people off, CP threatening those there who stand up saying it's going to affect their chances at AC. Deeper problem than what we saw two nights ago. That place will kill people! Just a matter of time.
From what I've heard, they lined up with the edge lights and took off. Had major engine damage, thought it was a rudder issue and return to land. Major engine overhaul needed.
So don't listen to everything you read on the media. THE GGN spokeslady has a way to turning and twisting the truth. She rolled into GGN on her high horse a few years back and frankly she's been the worst!
Anyways mods, delete this thread now. Cover up the truth as usual.
Ohhhhhh! I guess I did too much paperwork without enough coffee today I actually was reading about the wheel of the plane did this and that and pictured just the wheel of the plane going hurtling here and there. Boy do I feel silly, and for the record, I'm not a troll, just going a bit gaga with paperwork today - thanks Shabadoo
Just checked the CADORS:
An Air Georgian Beech 1900D (GGN7298) from Toronto/ Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Windsor Locks- Bradley, CT (KBDL) was departing Runway 06L when the aircraft veered off the left side of the runway and rejected the take off. Impact on operations: moderate.
Now some people are not surprised that GGN would do something like line up with the taxiway edge lights by accident but would you be surprised if AC mainline did it?
