Gander PC-12 nose gear up landing (2017?)

Post by linecrew »

Video footage of a PC-12 landing with a hung nose wheel. The video was posted December 2017 but there's no Gander CADORS that I could find for a PC-12 at all for 2017. Regardless it was a very nicely executed landing.

Is it because it’s RCMP that there’s no CADORS I wonder

Just first class job.

Lovely display of flying, that. I'll bet there was very little damage.

Doubt that. I've seen RCMP in CADORS for breaching their own restricted airspace in Ottawa. It was the airspace over Rideau Hall. It made me laugh. Said in the CADORS the pilot didn't know about the restricted airspace when questioned internally.

Would you guys hold the nose up as long as possible until the lowest possible speed and let it drop suddenly or slowly lower it while you still have some elevator authority?

Isn't that Q a little like : Would you pee into the wind or away from the wind ? Self explanatory me thinks !

Self explanatory for which scenario? If you lower the nose slowly it will be grinding along the runway for a longer time. If you let it drop suddenly at the end there is a large impact force.

A large impact force can transmit damage over a large area of the airframe, grinding does not.

Therefore it should be self explanatory.

Moral of the story, always be diligent after someone else moves your aircraft.

I guess a pin type tow bar adapter was left installed by ground crew and missed on the walk around. It somehow lodged up in there and wouldn't come down.
