according to the registration it is owned by SUPER T MGT dba super t aviation academy based out of medicine hat .
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
Not speculating necessarily but if I were to run out of fuel I would very likely feather both engines to increase gliding range, hopefully more too it than that.

Heres the landing. Pretty amazing he didn't hit anything but clipped the right wing.

They're both feathered. I took a picture of the wing tip laying beside the light standard that trimmed it off but I guess the photo hosting is gone now?
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
Similar to the the several PA31 crashes in YWG years ago when they had air contamination in the fuel system.

Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
A random young man with a beard on scene taking a picture and marveling at the skills of the pilot said, "They're getting ready to take the wings off."
A guy with TSB on his shirt was pulling a cowl I told him, "They're a ways away from that. They're still checking for reasons the engines had no fuel."
Then he said, "I was told they lost a fuel line and had to shut down to prevent a fire. I could see it too. My uncle is in the airforce and they have procedures."
Made my day to get some prime insider info on the scene. I enjoyed looking at the plane parked there too.
They're lucky it was so calm out this morning. That must have been pretty sporty sneaking under the traffic lights. I wonder if the crew had to go over to the Golden Arches across the street to use the facilities right after securing the plane and passengers. I know I would have.

From what knowledge of the company (all based on going there somewhat frequently to rent hangar space for the night and once for maintenance), they seem like a stand up company. Clean, new facility. Good mechanics. Not your northern Ontario/Manitoba navajo operator. I feel like this was either someone accidentally topped it up with the wrong amount of fuel, or a mechanical problem (but that seems far fetched for a twin engine failure). They do this trip rather frequently with the Navajo and YXH to YYC isn't a very far trip.
Good work from the pilots landing that machine safely.

Interesting name. Super T Aviation...owner...Mr. Super.Cessna 180 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 4:56 pm From what knowledge of the company (all based on going there somewhat frequently to rent hangar space for the night and once for maintenance), they seem like a stand up company.
Reminds me of Fast Air......owner....Dillon Fast.
Some people just have the right family name for their company.
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
It has been a lot of years since I last flew a Navajo ( 1989 I think ) but I don't remember any fuel line leak that would make me shut down both engines that close to an airport, however if a wing was on fire and I thought it was about to burn off I would get it on the ground real fast."I was told they lost a fuel line and had to shut down to prevent a fire.
Any signs of a fire on that machine?
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
Doing a quick flight plan, using ybw as an alternate, you need about 70gallons to be legal. With 6 onboard, you could fill the mains, and still be around 500# undergross(ymmv) I wouldn't have left with out a soft fill on the mains"never too much fuel unless your on fire". Whoever drove her in deserves a scotch, single malt of course, conversely if they caused the issue"your the PIC, you are responsible," then hopefully they get a little fuel bung reaming. It can happen to anybody, but it is our responsibility to make sure it doesn't......
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
Having sufficient fuel for a flight is about as basic as it gets.

If it was fuel exhaustion I’m sure it’ll still take two years for us to hear about it.
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
The TSB has to be sure of their findings before they release them.

Just imagine if you or I ran a business that was as inefficient as the TSB.
The taxpayers should refuse to fund any organisation that is as inefficient and vague in their findings as that one.
Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
Is there any archived ATC feed out there for this time period? It is my understanding that they called ahead reporting low fuel.

Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
I suspect there was a miss understanding as in, "Did they fuel up the HO last night?" "Yeah I think so." "Alright let's load up and go."
I have doubts about it being empty, then when they fueled up someone didn't calculate enough to squeak in the trip, trying to buy cheaper fuel in Calgary. I'm sure it's less expensive in The Hat.
More than once I have had someone mock me for dipping the tanks after they were "just filled" I'm just going to take look myself thanks.
They moved the plane off the road you can get pretty close to look and still be outside the police tape. I'm guessing they will truck it home in the very early morning.

I think CTV said the owner was Terri Super.
