Re: Muskoka Crash
More info here in the accident report. Basically, another low flyby with a steep turn leading to a stall and crash.
Almost did it to myself many years ago in a skydiving Cessna 180. It wasn't uncommon for a low flyby at the end of the day. The stall warning didn't really work in this aircraft and I remember being low and in a steep turn when I thought that I just barely heard the stall warning sound and I remember easing off my pull on the control column. Just a guess but I think that was the closest I ever came to a fatal accident(aside from near midairs). Probably more risky on high drag floatplanes.

Re: Muskoka Crash
"TSB recommendations for personal flotation device use and egress training for seaplanes."
Totally unnecessary. how about not flying like an asshole in the first place.

Re: Muskoka Crash
Piper driver I couldn't agree more.
I almost wish reports like this named the pilot to put an extra layer of shame on anyone who a$$holes about and nearly kills someone.

Have both when you fly water. I had both when I needed them - 'only used the PFD, egress was by ejection. But, the PFD very certainly save my life....personal flotation device use and egress training for seaplanes."
And, the pilot flying me was not flying like a jerk, completely normal landing and touchdown....
Re: Muskoka Crash
Up to a point!
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Muskoka Crash
That seems strange. I assumed that it was the touchdown that was the problem.PilotDAR wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 3:42 pmHave both when you fly water. Re: Muskoka Crash
About my last memory was looking out the right side window at perfect water, thinking to my self... we're going to touch.... now.... and we did - nicely. We were down, and I relaxed, planning to get out at the dock, and send my student for his five solo circuits. But, the plane was still going fast across the water, and a bad thing happened. I don't remember that part! That seems strange. I assumed that it was the touchdown that was the problem.
