If a chopper is going to crash....hide
I don't know what buddy on the left thinks he is going to accomplish but I have seen enough videos of choppers crashing to give this piece of advice....HIDE. Almost inevitably, blades go flying in a chopper crash and they will cut through you. Hide behind a car, hide behind anything solid and do it quicly or you may really regret it. There is nothing you can do to change the outcome. The pilot is not looking at you and watching or videoing the event is extremely risky. And you won't have time to safely hide once it hits the ground, you'll just have to hope you don't get hit by the pieces.....

It’s no different than a nuclear blast, duck and cover. Remember kids, FLASH! Duck and cover.

Not a fling wing pilot so my question is this ,,, as soon as the rear of the skids hit down , did that cause the rotor plane to suddenly tilt forward thereby causing an un-commanded forward flight ?
Re: If a chopper is going to crash....hide
It appears that the forward cowl is not in place. I wonder if this was a maintenance ground run which got a bit out of hand. Perhaps it was a deliberate action to try to back onto the dolly and get it over with - don't try to back onto a dolly!

Because obviously this was a problem with lack of directionspelmet wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 6:36 pmI don't know what buddy on the left thinks he is going to accomplish

I'm impressed that a) he somehow got the chopper there in the first place, and b) he got away with that.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 6:16 am https://mobile.twitter.com/Rotarywings1 ... 16/video/1
Yeah, this looks perfectly safe.

I suspect you are correct. A little ways into the video you can see a pilot side access panel flip up. The news report says it was a "maintenance check"

Ya, we need more info about this accident. The forward cowling "doghouse" is off, not a big deal, probably checking for leaks or something. The left hand engine cowling was open and can be seen swinging during the event. You would close that for any type of flying. The landing dolly is NOT secured as it is seen rolling just before takeoff. Maybe the pilot had some type of medical distress as there seems to be no logic to what happened.CFR wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 1:40 pmI suspect you are correct.
