The A320 can be flown with one or both winglets removed. There is a fuel penalty, 2% per winglet if I remember correctly.

You know, your title implies that AC was at fault when in reality they were stationary, maybe it should read, “AC wing clipped”

C-FKPT, an A320-200, was operated by Air Canada as flight AC716 from Lester B. Pearson Intl - Toronto (CYYZ) to LaGuardia (KLGA). After landing, C-FKPT was instructed by ATC to hold at Bravo and Gulf taxiways. N432YX, an Embraer 175 operated by Republic Airlines as flight RPA4589, from St. Louis Lambert International Airport (KSTL) to KLGA was instructed by ATC to hold at Romeo and Gulf when it clipped the left winglet of the stationary aircraft, C-FKPT. The Air Canada crew contacted ATC immediately and the Port Authority Operation, police and fire showed up to their gates (A7 and A5). There were no injuries; both aircraft sustained minor damage to their winglets. The CVR and DFDR were pulled from C-FKPT and reactivated. Maintenance is conducting the required inspections.

I gotta agree, that's a bullshit title. Almost clickbait-esque.

Sorry guys, I had originally just posted the link and came to the same conclusion as you, so thats why I made sure to include the quote from the story that indicates the AC aircraft was struck by another. I was multitasking at the time and wasn't sure how to edit the title, (an obviously simple task once I had a chance to come back to this and fix it)

I will try to do better in the future.

I guess the FAA isn't taking a chance that AC deletes their CVRs this time.
