Snowbank Strike Video

Have been skiing at this airport and flown a Jodel at the adjacent ski area flight school. Not much margin for an RTO.

RTOs happen at take-off, that was a landing.

Thanks for the correction. I had thought about that today at work as there is no obstacle on the departure end of this one way runway. It has a significant upslope for landings.

Looked at just before rushing out to work. You don’t want to land long because the runway is short and you need the uphill portion of the first half of the runway to slow down.

Long landing on a short runway - what could possibly go wrong?

Speed looks excessive as well - aircraft climbs with the runway slope before touching down.

Not an airport where you will get away with any of the above.

Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

Some airports, you have to get it right and this is one of them. Go-around options are not great. I flew a Jodel on skis with an instructor over in the next valley over from the accident airport of what is a massive interconnected ski complex called the three Valleys. That airport is snow covered all winter. The runway is short but if you touch down near the threshold you actually end up adding power significantly to get to the exit near the end of the runway.

But it is a bit of a challenging approach from a visual perspective with a huge upslope to get to the threshold and the unusual view that you have on final approach. That being said, I think the tendency is to come in too low. You can see it here....
