Last seen leaving YSB Monday @ 18:45, headed to their hangar near Kapuskasing. R66 with 2 on board.
They were reported missing on Wednesday morning. They allegedly had some survival equipment and a sat phone.
Signals last seen near gogama, still a huge uninhabited area.
I hope they are okay.

Re: Missing helicopter between Sudbury and Kapuskasing
Sounds like no flight plan, no tracking, over 36 hours before the search stated. Night flight over sparsely settled area.
I hope the outcome is positive but it is not looking good.
Why are folks still going missing in aircraft with great tracking devices available?

Not that it helps this at all, but I don't fly anywhere without GPS tracking. A SPOT tracker is a cheap an effective solution. Push the SOS button before hitting the trees, and the hercs are coming for you. They cost less than $200, certantly less than a tank of gas.
Re: Missing helicopter between Sudbury and Kapuskasing
Because the tracking devices are being paid for by the private operators whereas the search and rescue is provided for free by the government.
I wish I was joking, but I have a feeling it is an important factor...
This is all in general, nothing specifically related to this accident or operator.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

For those who put all their faith into Spot read this thread: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... 1618504090goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 6:38 pm Not that it helps this at all, but I don't fly anywhere without GPS tracking. Short of the story - his SOS signal did not work. Green lights on the device, no sign of malfunction.

Not to contribute to the thread creep, but spot has had some issues along with some customer service problems. I went to garmin inreach mini, it’s a little more money but worth it. I hadn’t thought of pressing sos on the way down! That’s a great idea, that I hope I never need!
Hope the missing are found fast, thoughts and prayers to them.

Someone should just make another topic in general comments about gps devices, this is not the place.waterdog wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 6:02 am Not to contribute to the thread creep, but spot has had some issues along with some customer service problems.
