Is that the same plane that went down on a frozen lake 2 years ago?

That one prop doesn't look like it was turning when it hit the water. I'd like to see a pic of the other one.

I can't see anyone picking up cargo at 1:00 am. I'd imagine this was a fuel hauler. Maybe it was on fire. A hot pump and a leaky hose or something. I'd be wanting to get out of a burning fuel plane asap with tanks full of fuel vapors. Not sure if I'd ditch it or not.

This article says "lost power in both engines shortly after takeoff"

I sure hope they investigate. Crashing two DC3s in 1.5 years isn't a good sign.

I suggest to the TSB that they do a full investigation of both accidents. We get reports for Cessna crashes yet nothing for the previous DC-3 crash.

If you landed in YPL and forgot to refuel it looks like you'd have just enough fuel to get to YFH but not much more.

And the idiots hit the ground running. This should be an easy 3 pages of mindless sleuthing by sundown.

How dark does it get up there at 1 am this time a year? Fairly North, but I imagine it must still have been fairly dark in the middle of the night. To ditch in those circumstances, scary!

Darker than a black steer's tokus on a moonless prairie night.

Please tell us what causes a dual turbine engine failure if not fuel. Volcanic ash? I wonder if they had enough time to get off a mayday call about the "fuel leak".

There can be other reasons for a dual engine failure. Just ask Sully.

Umm, yes you can tell by the ripple effect of the waves behind the rudder that the RH prop is in cruise pitch !!! Yes, That fluid that displaces air in the tanks must have been the problem. ( not enough displacement )

Sully's engines weren't reverse-flow with inertial separators and compressor inlet screens behind a 1900 rpm meat grinder.
