Medevac flight... Wonder if it was caused by an unsecured Oxygen bottle?

This is the second fatal accident for Lion Air (not the Indonesian airline) in a few months. The first one was a King Air on another medivac flight. The Philippine CAA has pulled their operating certificate.

Goes to you? I agree. I asked a serious question. What makes an otherwise airworthy airplane burst into flame on takeoff? One possibility is an oxygen bottle leak that raises the O2 concentration in the cockpit and that finds something electrical to ignite it. How about offering another theory you feel is more plausible, rather than being a d*ck?

Because an O2 bottle is highly unlikely and wouldn't cause a fireball by the time it was halfway down the runway....a more plausible explanation would be some sort of uncontained engine failure. Westwinds have fuel tanks everywhere.

I agree it's unlikely, but "fireball" is not a bad description for flammable things igniting in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. For a medevac plane, it may have more oxygen bottles that get moved around more and by more people than just the crew.

Good to know about the Westwinds, I agree that's more plausible in the circumstances.
