A Gentle Wirestrike

Post by pelmet »

C-GHSC, a Bell 206B (s/n 4385) operated by Expedition Helicopters Inc., was conducting a VFR
flight from the Weeneebayko General Hospital in Moose Factory, ON to an off-airport landing site
with one pilot and two passengers on board. After assessing the landing site, which was located
under a set of power lines, the pilot began a slow approach, descending below the height of the
power lines. Prior to passing below the lines, the pilot observed a small gauge wire in his path,
which made contact with the windscreen as the pilot maneuvered to arrest the forward motion of
the helicopter. The pilot backed away from the wire and returned to base at Moosonee, ON
(CYMO), which was less than three miles from the landing site. There was no damage to the
helicopter, and the wire remained intact.
