CJ525 Attention Getter

Post by Capt. Underpants »

Aftermarket modifications of GA aircraft can be great. A lack of understanding into how they've changed the aircraft can also put you in a very precarious situation, as in this case.

Loose screw causes CitationJet inflight upset.

The difference in narrative between the 2 sources is definitely interesting.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I did glean from the article that the pilot had no clue what to do with a winglet failure.

Tamarack is defending itself understandably.

Previous event
On 16 March 2019 at 1306 hrs, while flying from Buffalo (USA) to Goose Bay (Canada),
the aircraft experienced an uncommanded roll to the left, and the atlas inop button
illuminated.
The pilot described the roll as less severe than the incident on 13 April 2019, with a
maximum bank angle around 50°. The atlas inop button was lit for around three to
five seconds then extinguished without being pressed, after which the aircraft behaved
normally. He estimated the event lasted around twenty seconds. He stated that he did
not investigate it further because the system functioned normally for the remainder of that
flight, and on four subsequent flights.

This guy had a previous event which rolled the aircraft 50 degrees and he did investigate further! Flying an airplane with flight control modifications that he did not even read up on and be familiar!

Maybe it's just me but the fact that the system has a history of failure seems a little unnerving.
