Missing Aircraft Near Cat Lake First Nation
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Saturday, November 7th, 2009 am 10:34:49 AM

OPP and Nishnawbe-Aski Police are searching for a missing aircraft.
The Lockhart Air Services aircraft left Sioux Lookout Friday night and didn't reach its destination in Cat Lake.
Police and a C130 Hercules are conducting an air, water and ground search.
Lockhart President Derrick Flynn says 1-crew and 2-passengers were on board.
Flynn says his hopes and prayers are with the family members of the passengers and crew.

Not good - do we know which aircraft it is or does anyone have any other information? Hoping for the best here.

I've met their pilots. Good hard working professional folks. Nothing but good thoughts for their safe return. Good operation. Fingers crossed. At least the wx is on their side.

No news in a case like this, is not good. I can't imagine what the folks at Lockhart are going through. For what it's worth, our thought are with you guys.

It is a sad day when someone does not come home as planed. My thoughts are with everyone at Lockhart. YXL is a small aviation community and this is about as scary as it comes.

Unfortunately, the most recent I've heard is that the aircraft went down close to Cat Lake. Residents reported a fireball. 4 fatal injuries. Very sad. I do stress, however, that what I've heard is not confirmed by any authorities and I can only hope its just a rumour.

Strangely enough Sioux Lookout is a very large aviation community if you consider even on this board the number who have passed through here over the years -- some of us even gravitate back - looking out over the lake yesterday and waking up to a beautiful day this has really taken all that away -- it's very sad when we lose colleagues and the above statement is very true for our whole industry. We are a small community.

Just listening to CKDR; the president of the company stated that an air/ground/water search is still under way. Nothing has been located as of yet.........my thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Efforts Continue To Find Aircraft
Posted by Richard McCarthy on Sunday, November 8th, 2009 am 11:18:43 AM
Efforts are continuing today to find a missing aircraft in Northwestern Ontario. A massive air, water and ground search continues for a Lockhart Air Service aircraft which did not reach it's destination of Cat Lake after leaving Sioux Lookout Friday night. Ground trackers on land and water under the direction of the Nishnawbe Aski Police and OPP are also involved in the huge search for the aircraft and 3 onboard. Derrick Flynn, President of Lockhart Air says the search continued overnight and thanks the coordinators, search teams, local airlines and volunteers for their assistance and continued efforts to find the plane and its occupants.

My SAR unit here at CYYB as been tasked by JRCC to supply spotters for the C-130 and Griffin. We leave for Thunder Bay tomorrow.

Cheers...Chris

I would say rumour, Derrick has already said, 1 pilot 2 passengers.

As for the fireball report, lets not start to speculate on what went on yet. I don't by that report 1 bit.

thoughts with the lockhart team.

First off, Prayers and thoughts to all in this incident. Hopefully a recovery soon.
However, today is Sunday and this I understand happened Friday night. Has a substantial search effort occured to date? Is weather hampering efforts? Previous poster said he/she was being readied for a mission tomorrow?? Why the delays? Curious

Let's leave speculators to the financial market.
Here's hoping that all are on the ground safely, somewhere accessible and that they are soon found.
Our SAR is the best around, and they do a great job. I have family on the Herc and they do their darndest to get the troops home. Positive thinking folks.

Stay safe all,

Tony
