Hope for the best for this pilot

Quote:
.(CNN) -- After his plane ripped into pieces as it crashed Sunday night in a Utah neighborhood, the pilot was found burned and banged up but coherent, according to a witness.
The Cessna 210 single-engine plane went down shortly before 6 p.m. in a residential area of Roy, Utah, according to Ogden police dispatcher Brittany Dean.
The plane had been cleared for landing at nearby Ogden Airport when it crashed, said Mike Fergus of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Gary Cox was in the neighborhood, attending a family birthday party, when the power went out right after the plane went down. He told CNN affiliate KSL that he and a few other people found a man, later identified as the pilot, lying on the ground.
"He was confused, hurt and in a lot of pain," Cox said. "But he was able to answer questions and get where he needed to be."
The plane's engine sat in the front yard of a house, Cox said, with other parts strewn throughout the neighborhood.
Roy fire Chief John Ritchie told KSL that the pilot was talking when he was transported to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition Sunday night.
Two occupied homes -- one with three people inside, the other with two -- caught fire after the crash, Ritchie said. But no one inside was hurt and, within about an hour, firefighters were able to put out the fires.
The crash knocked out power for 1,700 homes, starting at 5:58 p.m., said Margaret Oler of Rocky Mountain Power. By 7:10 p.m., power had been restored to all but 875 customers. A nearby elementary school was opened as a temporary shelter for those without heat and lights, Ritchie said.
Visibility was minimal at the time of the crash, as the National Weather Service had issued a dense fog advisory for the area. That warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday.
Roy is about 6 miles southwest of Ogden, with the affected neighborhood near Ogden-Hinckley Airport.

I was exchanging emails on this crash last night.

Aircraft was a Turbo Centurion T210M, N77CF and had departed only 27 minutes prior
to the accident from a private strip South of Ogden.

He came down left of runway '3' and short by click here by 2400 feet - on 4300 Street South, at 2000 West Street.

Fog was heavy at the time of the accident. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N77CF

Aircraft struck several trees and light posts - causing two transformers to explode, and two houses to catch fire. Pilot was coherent but badly injured. There was nothing left of the aircraft, and pilot himself was in the street.

There was also a Piper Malibu that lost power over the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. The aircraft was flying from Cozumel to New Orleans.

At 26,000 feet the pilot lost the engine and glided for 25 minutes - there was a Delta passenger flight diverted to follow him. He was able to perform a successful water ditching beside a oil drilling platform - 170 miles off shore!!!

The platform's crew sent out a dingy and rescued the 4 persons on board - uninjured!!

And this Cessna U206G Stationair N9742Z flying at 3000 feet - was flying from a private strip in New Hampshire to Long Island New York yesterday.

It dropped off the radar at 15:40 - you can see the FlightAware log of the flight's radar pings;

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N974 ... P/tracklog

It appeared like the pilot was attempting an emergency landing, it came down in a hilly well treed area, with an open field - but struck a power line and flipped upside down.

One person on board was killed, one serious, and two minor injuries. Very lucky for two of them.

In the summer there are sometimes 50 - 60 accidents and incidents in the USA during your average weekend, around this time of year usually 5 - 15. This weekend was no different with at least 7 aircraft written off.

Husband and wife survived this Bonanza accident - just short of the runway in Claymore OK>
