Heard a 737 crashed into a hill beside the runway in YRB... Doesn't sound good...RIP My thoughts go out to friends and families of those involved.

I just came across this on Pprune.

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2011/08/20 ... reloaded=1
A First Air flight has crashed near Resolute Bay, Nunavut in Canada's far North.

The plane, which departed from Yellowknife and was apparently headed to Resolute, crashed early Saturday afternoon.

A source said the 737 was carrying 15 passengers plus crew members.

Transport Minister Denis Lebel's spokeswoman Vanessa Schneider could not confirm the number of people affected.
"No firm details yet," she wrote in an email.

There were initial concerns the flight crash involved a military plane taking part in Operation Nanook but Defence Minister Peter MacKay's spokesman Jay Paxton told The Huffington Post Canada that information suggested it was not a military plane.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to fly to Resolute Monday night. Operation Nanook's main training exercise begins Tuesday. Nanook is a sovereignty and presence patrolling operation.

Any more info? Hope it is a minor incident that is overblown.

Latest word is three survivors. Extremely low cloud and poor visibility at the time, possibly a CFIT.

My most sincere condolences to First Air and Family. This is very very sad news. I can't remember when the last 737 crashed in Canada.

Wouldn't that be PWA314 Cranbrook Feb. 1978?

If that piece that I see in the middle right of the photo is the tail, it looks like it could be C-GNWN.
