Anyway, the Dash is still there, waiting for parts, aileron and wing tip. The AN pilot, after the encounter, looked at his dented wing, boarded passengers, and took off to Kabul...

AN-24 VS Dash-8
We had a small encounter here, at our small airport last week. A Dash-8 was sitting on the apron, waiting to take off. An AN-24 landed, and wings kissed. A good kiss. almost 2 meters of embrace. The Antonov on top, and the Dash below.
Anyway, the Dash is still there, waiting for parts, aileron and wing tip. The AN pilot, after the encounter, looked at his dented wing, boarded passengers, and took off to Kabul...

Re: AN-24 VS Dash-8
Just a few questions if you are at liberty to disclose, Expat. Was the Dash on the apron, at the hold line, or lined up to go when the AN24 made contact? Any injuries? Who was at fault (Not meaning to make accusations on this one, just from your perspective of course)? What were the met conditions like. How close is the apron to the runway?
What I find hard to discern is was the AN pilot not lined up properly because you say "A Dash-8 was sitting on the apron, waiting to take off. An AN-24 landed, and wings kissed." (Not like kissing your sister, eh?)
You do not have to answer any of these question if you choose not to. I will totally understand. I am not wanting to have a false opinion formed here based on one persons' assesment.
Thank you very much.

I will be brief, as I was not there when the incident happened. The Dash( Canadian crew and Canadian company) was sitting at the refueling point at the airport. The AN landed to the right of the centerline, and clipped wings with the Dash. They landed very early, or short.

Thank you. Will wait for the TC report.

More interesting here was the reaction of locals, who said they would prefer to fly to Kabul in the AN, because it was stronger...

Re: AN-24 VS Dash-8
Sadly I've seen this very close call happen several times, but luckily never saw the collision. When I was previsouly flying a DHC-7 for the UN in Africa, we were parked on the "Apron" at one end of the sand runway, on a teardrop shaped area beside the runway. The AN-24 back tracked and took off towards us. Sure we were at the end of the runway and they would probably rotate before the apron, and our wing tip was probably just on the edge of the runway... but I backed away and watched from afar, unable to do anything about it. They did rotate late, but luckily all was uneventful.

No hotel here for the crew to stay, so what do you do?Siddley Hawker wrote:Good job!The AN pilot, after the encounter, looked at his dented wing, boarded passengers, and took off to Kabul...

Hey Beef,
The Russkies can probably blame it on the bunch of pax already phoning and tweeting their arrival. This could have caused the plane to swerve right on landing...in a 100& VFR gravel strip!
Afghans are known to do just that on their phones. They are like a proximity warning call: We are 1 kilometer, 100 meters, 10 meters from touch down...
Or was it the vodka?
The Canucks were stationnary, so nothing bad there.

Re: AN-24 VS Dash-8
Expat, these sound like the same pax we have who think a certain local airline has better pilots than we do because they land when reported vis is 400m and approach ban is at 1600m.
Re: AN-24 VS Dash-8
I just saw the "Af Civil Aviation" report. What a joke.
