EDMONTON - A 36-year-old pilot is dead after his plane crashed Thursday in a wooded area near the Rocky Mountain House airport, RCMP say.
A Pitts S-1S biplane was doing an aerobatic training exercise when the crash happened around 4:30 p.m., RCMP said in a release.
The crash killed Mark Chevallier of Rocky Mountain House.
According to a company website, Chevallier was the president of Chevallier Geo-Con Ltd., a heavy equipment contractor based in the community.
Results listed on the Aerobatics Canada website show Chevallier has in the past competed in aerobatic competitions in the town, which is about 230 kilometres from Edmonton.
RCMP say the Transportation Safety Board is the lead investigating agency and will probe the cause of the crash |
