C-FROH a Cessna 414 private aircraft belonging to Sotracom Ltd., was flying under visual flight rules (IFR) from Kuujjuaq (CYVP) to Schefferville (cykl). The approach speed was high and when landing, the aircraft made hydroplaning and off the runway. The three landing gear were torn off and the plane stopped in a small ditch. There were no injuries. Centre Halifax Search and Rescue (RCC), the National Operations Center (NOC) and Contingency Operations Civil Aviation Organization (CACO) have been notified.

Sigh.The approach speed was high
For the newbies: I don't see VG's in this photo.
VG's totally transform the 300/400 series Cessna.
Without them, you must be precise with the airspeed
and when you pull the throttles.
With VG's, it's like flying a Piper Cub, it's so forgiving.
Remember that the next time you walk up to a 300/400
Cessna to fly it.
Re: C-FROH Cessna 414A gear torn off on landing CYKL
I wouldn't think that someone would shell out for that pretty little winglet installation and not for VGs.. look closely at the v-stab.
Re: C-FROH Cessna 414A gear torn off on landing CYKL
that aircraft DOES have the VG kit - you can clearly see on the outboard side of the engine nacelle the one part of the kit affixed to it. the little vortex generators on the wings would be next to impossible to see in this angle. and unless there was sufficient shadowing, same with the tail (if the VG kit for the 414 has them on the vertical stab).
as far as turning the 300 and 400 series Cessna into pussycats.... hmm. they are worth the $$ for sure, and do improve many of the handling characteristics. a very small investment for the return, for sure.

It would depend on what RAM Mod the plane has. The V and VII have them only on the Inboard of the nacelle, I can't remember about the VII but the V does have VGs on the vertical Stab.bbb wrote:that aircraft DOES have the VG kit - you can clearly see on the outboard side of the engine nacelle the one part of the kit affixed to it. the little vortex generators on the wings would be next to impossible to see in this angle. and unless there was sufficient shadowing, same with the tail (if the VG kit for the 414 has them on the vertical stab).
The IV does have VGs outboard of the Nacelle.
I believe only the V and VII are only ones with the Winglets., and the above plane is not a V.

Thanks JMACK. If you know why I'm getting the word "Image" showing instead of the image itself, could you let me know?

thanks for that image.
You can see the little teeny tiny VG's on the wing stub, inboard of the engine nacelles. None on the vertical stab (those small marks right near the rudder attach point are rivets and screws). so according to Lurch, that would make it a VII.
