... usually results in no responsibility at critical times. The most ATC wants to know is your approach speed to allow for sequencing. Lets just keep it that pilots know and act on pilot stuff and ATC knows and acts on ATC stuff.

I see what you mean there.
The most ATC wants to know is your approach speed to allow for sequencing. Lets just keep it that pilots know and act on pilot stuff and ATC knows and acts on ATC stuff.

Just read an article on the accident. Basically, they tried to do a straight-in approach with a steep descent gradient and a huge tailwind. It didn't work out the first time so they tried again.

I really don't understand why they waited until what appears to be short final before putting the gear down along with full flap. If you have even a modest tailwind on a normal descent gradient, you want to do this early. It also sounds like the spoiler was being used into the flare based on the CVR recording which might explain a hard touchdown and bounce. Not much mention of that in the report. Perhaps they bounced and subsequently pushed the nose down. The report seems to be missing critical info.
