Calgary and Inuvik are the two king air bases. They used to have them in resolute and iqaluit, not so much anymore. Contracts elsewhere do happen.
The inuvik base is rotational. 2 on 2 off, with changes that crop up from time to time. I was told when I was there to expect your rotations to vary, and they did. Still pretty reasonable. I enjoyed it. Could see how it could be difficult with a young family, or someone who wasn't adaptable.
YYC is charter work and YEV is medevac and charter. Picking up from the outlying communities in the northwestern NWT and back to YEV or south to yellowknife as needed. I have no idea about how busy YYC is these days.. it's been a couple of years since I was directly involved.
Pay has changed since I was there as well.
Cheers!

Re: Kenn Borek Air
I have a friend who works in Inuvik right now. He enjoys it. Lives in Calgary on his two weeks off each month. Not a ton of flight time but the pay is good.
If you're low time, it's currently about 8 months of dispatch in Calgary before being put on the twotter or KA.

Re: Kenn Borek Air
Although there is a Kingair in YYC, it hardly ever (never) flies. Think it has done 2 flights since November, but I don't spend much time in YYC so take it with a grain of salt....
The only regular base for BE20 is CYEV. There has been a push to have a plane in CYFB but so far no dice.
Medevac rotations are 13 days in/13 days out.
Sched/Charter machine is 3 weeks in/3 weeks out.
but with movement, time out is often cut short to cover holes in the schedule...
Work is as Rowdy pointed out
Don't know what F/Os get paid. Mid 20s I think...
Capt pay is whatever you can negotiate.

*Gulp* Really? You quite literally can make that much working at McDonalds. That can't be right.Brantford Beech Boy wrote:Don't know what F/Os get paid. Mid 20s I think...

Unfortunately it probably is correct and its not the only company out there with this sort of compensation either. I bet they are still overloaded with resumes too.
Re: Kenn Borek Air
Mid 20's now? Has it come down that much since I've been gone? Crazy.

I stand corrected. After consulting the boys, I guess the F/O pay is in the low 30s....
Who knew?

Re: Kenn Borek Air
Which considering how much they fly and they only work essentially 6 months a year it's not terrible. It's also an entry level gig, they're making more than guys at Pasco our CMA.
Re: Kenn Borek Air
You don't work only 6 months per year. You work all year on a rotational gig. People who consider a two on/two off or month on/month off, to be only working half the year, are only kidding themselves.
"My dad worked a Monday to Friday gig with an eight hour shift. Wow, he only worked a third of the year plus had every weekend off on top of that."

Hi,
Any update about the entry salaries on the DHC6 and Basler?
Thanks!

Re: Kenn Borek Air
Do they still have the confusing pay scale? ie $15/hour + 1500 / month for FO's type thing? Makes it weird to figure out since you don't know how much you'll fly till you're there. Also hard to compare with co-workers until you know how much each machine at each base flys.

Re: Kenn Borek Air
I was unaware we had pay scales of any kind...
Learn something new every day!
and yes pay is a mix of base+daily rate
Daily Rate depends on where you are, which contract you are flying, what you are flying, the landing surface being used....etc etc..
to my knowledge, none of our flight crew are paid an hourly rate (at least not for flying)...all daily rate

Re: Kenn Borek Air
So nobody has any recent information about working on the Basler or DHC6?
Thanks if you have anything!

Re: Kenn Borek Air
If you want to work on a Basler go get a job at Cargo North. Last I heard two wannabes got into the right seat after 3/4 months.

Re: Kenn Borek Air
pecessix,
try doing a search of these boards for Borek DHC6...most info is still correct. Nothing really changes at KBA...
Just Curious had some good posts which explained the DHC6 quite succinctly.
I know little of the Basler life, except they don't have much of one.
Cheers

Re: Kenn Borek Air
I have read everything I could find here, Just Curious and a few others wrote some very useful information about the DHC6, it's hard to find some on the Basler.
I'm just looking for something more recent. Especially about the salaries, as everybody seems to have a different story!
Thanks anyway!

Re: Kenn Borek Air
Does anyone have any recent info on Kenn Borek? Pay? Is it still rotational? And how long is the wait to get in the right seat of the twotter?
Re: Kenn Borek Air
For a low time pilot, Kenn Borek is hard to beat if you have a hankering for some adventure and don't mind being away from home for 6-8 months a year.
Yes it is still rotational, but only once you are out of the office. It's anywhere from 6 months to a year before getting a seat on the Twin or the Beech. If you hate being stuck in an office, and don't mind getting sent to Antarctica for a full season, you can request to be put on the Basler as a flight attendant. Getting paid everyday for 4-5 months, while living on a station with no expenses is a great way to pay off that flight school debt.
Co-pilots start at 1400/month plus 120/day or 150/day in Antarctica.
185 days a year is what you should plan for but my years average 220 (90ish of that on the ice).
Some quick math reveals that for a 250 hour wonder, its pretty hard to find a better paying copilot job.. (beats out Jazz and Encore)
