Pilot job for an Immigrant

Post by Ilyushin76 »

What are the chances of a pilot on an immigrant visa / PR with a few thousand hours of jet time to get an employment in regional / national carriers?

Thanks in advance :prayer:

Pretty good if you can travel to the US unrestricted... getting a visa or otherwise.

As long as you are legally qualified to work in Canada, there should be no problem. If you're a "landed immigrant", you should be good to go. If you have a visitor visa, a work visa, or a student visa, that might be a different issue. Contacting Immigration Canada might be a good step in the latter 3 cases.

Once you have the "right to work" figured out, you can then start applying to places, provided your flying stuff is all up to date (or, you have the ability to get it up to date if you're called to work!)

Edit: The above is true if you're looking for work in Canada. Also, there's a sticky thread with advice about looking for work in Canada that would be helpful for you to go through.

If at first you don't succeed, maybe NDB approaches just aren't for you

- get your PR card
- get your Canadian ATPL (check all the requirements, you might not meet them all ... )

Good luck !

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I don't believe you need one to be a right seater in most smaller regionals/704s, only those flying airplanes on the "Two Crew Minimum" list.

Yep, for the right seat on the two crew minimum you need on of those three completed.

The IATRA
Or the SARON / SAMRA
Or the ATPL licence

To be capt on a Be10 you only need a CPL licence but I think contract providers/insurance like you better if you have your ATPL.
