Ornge seems to be posting ads every couple of months. I am wondering the following:

- Flight hours per month (per base)?
- Upgrade times?

I'm not with Ornge, though I do see them around in my travels. Looks to me like they're flying a lot more than they used to and I would suspect each pilot pretty well has to see at least 500 hours a year as a bare minimum, 800 wouldn't surprise me at all and even that feels pretty conservative. As for upgrade, that one is harder as it sounds to me like their captains have it pretty well and all the ones I've met plan to stay. Hopefully someone from within chimes in or at least sends you a PM.

Most 703s are filled with hit-it-and-quit-it pilots at present, so if your question about upgrade is because you want to stay a good long time be sure to make that perfectly clear to them. Commitment is a very valuable thing in Canadian aviation right now.

I am on the rotary side. I don't know exact figures but I know they fly a ton. Most bases seem to be busy, YQT and YXL seem to be very steady, and likely depends on the day and what is already in the air.

If you join the company you'll likely get posted in YQT or YXL to start as those are the "Jr" bases.

YQT is a college town, if you're into clubbing baby seals, life wouldn't be too bad.

Maybe offer to "tutor" to 2-3 hot chicks in the confed program, slayin' it!

The number of qualified pilots available to fly for them is going down, while the number of sick and injured people in Ontario stays roughly the same. There will be lots of flying, possibly only restricted by the CARs or the union.

Good example: three Ornge PC-12s arrived in YQT at the same time a couple nights ago, with a fourth starting the approach just after I left. They're busy.

Also, would going from 500 hours in a King Air to a PC12 be a step in the wrong direction or would it all come out in the wash?

I'll just say this, in most application processes now, all single time is bunched together, so basically just as valuable as Cessna time.

I don't work for Ornge, however from what I know it's a 4 on / 4 off schedule - 2 days / 2 nights then 4 days off and no flight bennies, so commuting might be hard.

There are a million other saftey concerns in life before that one, it's like the fat guy that said I was crazy for flying a PC12 single pilot night IFR, kinda chuckled and informed him he'd stroke out or have a MI well before that mill stopped turning.

Any company that viewed flying a MEDEVAC PC12 hard IMC in the same light as buzzing around the practice area in a 172, first off not very smart management, second not a company Id want to work for anyways, try not to surround yourself with idiots.
