What's happening? It's called a pilot shortage. Been coming for 30 years...

I know a guy who finished training last week at a major, sim partner was the CP at a 3rd tier.

What's it like being a commuter there? I know they are promoting that you can live anywhere on their route structur now. Like say you live in Victoria and fly the Saab. Would it involve going to the airport at o'dark thirty and flying to Vancouver and then being expected to do a full duty day? Is it mostly multi-day pairings or would you then be commuting home at the end of your duty day too?

Industry is moving. If you’ve got your As and 1900 time, Encore, Jazz... even Mainline wants you. If it weren’t for bonds it would be even worse. CMA and PASCO are both struggling to fill seats... as is Jazz and Encore as mainline scoops up guys and gals.

For a commuting lifestyle... commuters are more the exception than the rule. They aren’t well set up for commuting but they recognize that nobody can afford to go to YVR on an FO wage. But renting a crashpad and commuting for a 1900 FO job makes little sense either.

Except that most of the positions just advertised are for 'non-pilot' jobs.

I asked that and was told that the airline will give you a free guaranteed seat there but the rest is up to you. ie arriving fresh and ready to work your assigned duty and that if you have to stay overnight in YVR to do so, that's up to you to arrange and pay for.

As for the recurring post, they apparently pushed the groundschools back to jan from november so I'd imagine they just want to keep the talent pool fresh. Odds are most of the people they called got jobs at another company by now.

If you are interested send a request and ask for information. The lady I spoke with from HR has an Avcanada account and was quite nice to talk with.

At least three of the instructors I know had 800tt, ~20mpic and got onto GGN. Not sure how these companies keep asking for 1000 for FO time in the middle of nowhere. Not that Pasco does that... At least you're the middle of somewhere.

We all know the pilot market is red hot, I posted this topic more on the other positions that they are advertising for seams like everyone is leaving not just pilots (and we know why pilots are leaving).

Good Day All,

To shed some light on the large number of postings issued a few weeks ago, there are a number of factors at play currently. Some positions are brand new as we continue to grow the operation, some positions are open due to internal advancement of personnel, and some are open due to personnel departing (personal reasons or other career opportunities).

It continues to be exciting times here as we continue to grow our routes, including the newly announced Vancouver to Tofino beginning April 3rd 2018. On the pilot side, recruitment will likely be ongoing as we prepare for multiple intakes in early 2018, the first of which will run mid-January. Our pilot roster is a healthy mix of those here for the long haul and those here for a few years as they progress through their careers.

Our commuting policy allows pilots to commute from any destination served by Pacific Coastal. Pilots travel with confirmed seats and for free. Pairings are built wherever possible to be multi-day overnights, however we do work on a seniority based system and the need to spend some nights in Vancouver each month would therefore be required. We currently have commuters living in Kelowna, Comox, Campbell River, Powell River and Victoria with some flying the Saab and some flying the 1900. While it isn’t perfect, it generally seems to be working quite well with pilots home more often than not. Christmas this year is a great example with only 6 pilots (of more than 80) assigned to work December 25th, most of whom volunteered.

For the pilot positions, we in Flight Operations will be ramping up the screening of applicants in preparation for 2018 over the next two weeks.

If a commuter pilot has to spend some nights a month in Vancouver do you pay for their accommodations there?
