Keewatin could lower their pilot wages and still have lots of pilots applying.

(Not defending Keewatin or their subpar pay at all) Perhaps the opportunity for a quick upgrade, in turn the chance to quickly build the ATPL required hours and then in a few short years work at a better 705. Saves those 250 hour folks from turning into a sad regional FO having to rent a single piston on their own dime.
Except for the fact that Calm Air is granting LOA’s to FO’s that need the PIC to go direct entry cpt on the keweetin king airs
You’re missing my point. What I stated was they could spend a few years at Keewatin (or any 703/704) aquire the hours and go to a better 705.
Instead of going to calm air for a few years, taking a loa, going to Keewatin (or any 703/704) then back to calm air and maybe then on to another regional.
You may think calm air is a decent 705 and it may be, fact is not many people want to hang their hat in Winnipeg or Thompson.
A) who said you have to go back to Calm Air after
B) since you will have 705 time you will have a much better chance of skipping the regional step or in the case of an Encore be much closer to upgrade there
C) Calm Air is a great 705 company, look at the time to left seat and the years spent at the company on average for captains as proof.
D) Winnipeg is a better place to live than any of the Majors bases, at least you can afford a house unlike YVR / YYZ

A. My response was to taking an LOA. Do you need me to tell you what LOA means? Cause you’re talking about quitting which I wasn’t at all.
B. I’d assume going 703/704 for long enough to get the pic/total time for A’s then straight to a regional would offer a faster upgrade overall then calm air, 703/704 and then regional. You’re going to accumulate the total time needed for an upgrade much faster at a 703/704 as they tend to work you harder.
C. I didn’t say it wasn’t a great company. Just not where most people outside of Manitoba strive to go.
D. You can have your opinion that Winnipeg is better. I’d be willing to bet money that a very large portion of Canadians don’t feel that way. There’s a reason you can buy a house cheaper.

Good try

There is no way that Winnipeg is a better place to live than Toronto or Vancouver; cheaper yes. Better? No. Not even close lol

I prefer Winnipeg over Toronto, and it's not even about the money.

One persons' version of "better" is much different than someone else's. I honestly have zero desire to return to Vancouver or ever go to Toronto, it would have to be for A LOT of money.

The price of a house in Winnipeg has gone up astronomically in the past 10 years that it has really become almost unaffordable for many. As for living being better, well I was there 9 years and moved to Tbay and couldn’t be happier. Some would say that Calgary is way better (I wouldn’t). Everyone’s idea of way better is subject to the individual.

I wouldn't work for Keewatin. I know people that have worked there, and it sounds like about the worst place you could go. Management treats the employees terribly (I've heard of them calling nurses after they've worked for 24 hours). The pay is below average, and they have very little experience in the cockpits. EIC cares deeply about their shareholders and management bonuses, and it's the employee that pays the price.

I think it's safe to say the medic makes what both pilots make together combined. If you don't like the wage don't apply. Shouldn't take long and they'll bump the pay right up. Other operators paying 120 to 140k for captains.
